My daughter just told me that Claude has passed away. I do not know the circumstances of his passing.
He was a kind and honest man. My life has been so enriched for knowing and hunting with Claude! God bless his soul and comfort his family!

Apparently Claude was killed by a buffalo that charged him. I do not know where he was.

I heard this morning.......

Terrible damned thing. I hunted with him last year and we got a very nice old bull and Claude was a great guy to hunt with and was really working his area into a,nice place. I was gonna hunt with him again in July.

The spotty info I got, was that they had killed a bull earlier and where cutting a road in to get him and a second bull nailed him.

God speed my friend.

Life is fragile and wild places are dangerous.

Very sad news indeed. Claude was one of the most honest and humble hard working Ph that I knew. He had the Makuya reserve in the far north bordering the Kruger Park last year and this was his second season of a ten year lease. Details are still sketchy at this stage as this happened yesterday ( 22 May at roughly 14:00 ). Fellow PH Albert Alberts got there this morning to assist and sort things out and bring Claude's two American Hunters back. ( One client got a 45" buffalo bull the previous day)
RIP Claude, will miss you my friend

So sorry to hear this. My wife, brother and I hunted SA for plainsgame with him 10+ years ago. He was a great person, fun to talk with, a great sense of humor, and just what you'd hope from a PH. We met with him at several shows in the US before booking with him, and then had a an outstanding safari. My condolences and best wishes to his family.

Really sad news. Randi and I hunted with Claude when he was with Mafageni and married to Jill at the time. We had a great time and he actually helped Randi get her first big game animal, a bushbuck. He also got me my first buffalo. We caught up at some of the US shows. Great guy. He will be missed.

I had lunch with good friends of the family of Claude today. The account of client taking down a buff and Claude cutting trail into the animal for recovery is correct. Claude was hooked in the groin by another Buffalo by surprise...which severed his central arteries. He was gone very quickly with no chance of survival from this severe injury.
The Good Guys seem to go first...GOD SPEED Claude!!

My wife Vicki and I hunted with Claude and Jill in 2005. It was Vicki's first safari, and set the stage for 3 more trips to Africa since then. We had a great time. Claude was a real professional, and fun to be around. He had recently returned from Tanzania, and told us of a recent close encounter in the high grass with a buff. Sad news. Prayers and condolences to friends and family. Claude is no doubt hunting in the land of 50" buff now.
