This might be a mistake but was just wondering what everyones thoughts were as to what would be the best area for a big big buffalo?

Question:
Masailand or Selous

Choices:
Masailand
Selous

Masailand offers the best opportunity for a very big bull... Selous has them too but Masailand is famous for them. Trick is you have to catch them when they come out of Tarangire Park... so the later the better.

The Selous has a crap load of buffalo...just very few big (over 40") ones.

Masailand has some monsters but you have to time it right.

Yep, I hunted Masailand in mid october and most of the buff had migrated into the park for water.

Hands down, it's Masailand in late Nov or December for 45 to 50 inch buffalos.

Will,

What do you think about late March, just before the short rains? Well, in any event, I'll tell you next year.

Agree on the Selous. Lots of buffalo. Lots of fun. Never saw anything big, except on soft-bossed bull in a herd. He was wide and will be something in another few years.

Mike,

Make no mistake. Masailand can offer in your face buffalo to equal anything anywhere. You can find buffalo in the open but more often your digging them out of some incredibly nasty cover.

To answer the original question we have averaged over 43" in our Masailand blocks since '05. Our Selous blocks average about 38"-39" which is quite good and of course there are bigger bulls there but I would not expect to shoot a really huge bull in the Selous anywhere.

Hi Mark, your 2 buffalo hunt in Masailand in late November is still on my "bucket list", but first the brown bear hunt this September ...
