The latest issue of Guns & Ammo mentions the Sako 75 Safari. "A classic English-style express repeater, the Sako 75 Safari sports a true African profile, replete with stylish Circassian walnut stock, barrel-band sling swivel, banded front-sight, a single V rear-sight blade atop a beautifully-matted quarter-rib and red rubber Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad. Featuring a drop magazine that holds five rounds of 375 H&H or 416 Remington Magnum ammo (plus one in the chamber), it also sports a newly designed controlled-round feed mechanism and a fixed-blade ejector. Its three-lug bolt allows for a 70-degree lift and the slick action is fast as lightning."

This sounds interesting. This is in the December 2001 issue. They will do a complete report on this rifle in the January 2002 issue. Has anyone laid their hands on one?

What this means to me is Sako finally saw the light. I have owned a lot of SAKO rifles, but always in varment chamberings, simply because they refused to build a CRF rifle. I'm hopeing they also include an extra recoil lugg on the barrel in the 416 Rem Mag, the 375s did not have one, and they have had a problem with the action moveing in the stock in wet weather. The 416 will IMO, exaserbate this problem. I love Sako rifles, and now, maybe, I can take one to Africa, and Alaska! Can't wait for the report in Dec.!

It didn't give any info on cost. I wonder why they don't reference it on their website. You would think that Sako would be banging the drums on this. I've never owned one, but I have heard a lot of positive comments on Sakos.

Here's a brief article that mentions the new rifle (from the Guns & Ammo website).

Terry

P.S.
Alf, they spelled "daga" incorrectly.

I thought Beretta bought Sako, but on Beretta's website they say they are the exclusive distributors for Sako and Tikka.

Also, I didn't see Beretta's rifle (the Mato) on their website. Are they not making the Mato anymore?

Beretta's association with Sako (whatever it is), the disappereance of the Mato and the introduction of the Sako 75 Safari -- could they be related?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Regards,

Terry

The website is dealing with the current production 75's. Worth looking at though.

Thanks RonL
