Cannibalism on list of alleged atrocities
U.N. officials say Congo militiamen grilled bodies
Associated Press

KINSHASA, CONGO - Militiamen grilled bodies on a spit and forced a mother to watch as they boiled her two daughters alive, U.N. peacekeepers charged Wednesday, adding cannibalism to a list of atrocities allegedly carried out by one of the tribal groups fighting in northeast Congo.

The report came as a key U.N. official said the ongoing violence in Congo, claiming thousands of lives every month, has made it the world's worst humanitarian crisis.

The commander of U.N. forces in Congo, Gen. Patrick Cammaert, presented a report on abuses allegedly committed by the Patriotic Resistance Front of Ituri.

"Those responsible for atrocities will be brought to justice," Cammaert said.

Congo became a battleground for six nations during a 1998-2002 war that killed 50,000 people. Another 3 million died of hunger and disease.

Jan Egeland, head of the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, said the fighting in Congo had overtaken Sudan's Darfur region as the world's most serious humanitarian crisis.

I have to wonder if the "peace keepers" watched while the two children were killed?

Hello,
Have travelled Africa over the years and cannibalism has existed for many a year there and so has many other unbelievable animalistic acts. Not to go "political" on the wrong area of the forum, but it really makes one wonder what in the hell is wrong with the people in America that want us to go along and get along with the United Nations?? Not going to ever happen and many people want us out and out now, but the politicians keep us there. Last election should have shown that those will not be favored in the future. Would not want to use more force than necessary to bring to justice those committing the atrocities, would we?
Favor Center!! (area where throat and chest meet is center enough I would think)

Does not surprise me in the least, cannabalism still exists in Africa, just not highly publisized. Those peace keepers are just bush Africans and a long way from civilized by our standards..

Yes I am sure they watched while the girls boiled and died, and they laughed and ate them, then raped the mother...this is Africa, the dark continent, not for the weak of heart..only the strong survive.

I was in Lumbumbabshi three years ago doing a wildlife survey of the surrounding countryside (nothing) and there was human flesh for sale in the bazzar. In fact the only meat was fish, croc or human.

Back in 86 six of us decided to go and see the pyramids- were not allowed through Tanzania so had to try and go through Zire (as it was then). It was an experience- to put it mildly. Never di get to egypt and one of the lads stayed there to open a bakery and deal in timber diamonds and guns ( still there and doing very nicely thankyou)

Once we got out of the savaana area of congo the just about the only meat was monkey. Sold whole, but split open with innards removed and the body cavity smoked.

Our vehicles were mostly carrying fuel so we had to buy local food- but after one "resturant" owner responded to our compliments on the superb tast of the stew with the words - "yes, she was young but plump" we stuck to bying only things we could identify. - we ate a lot of banana's and rice.

The congo has always been a land on the very fringe and as far as I can tell it hasn't changed (for the better anyway) since my brother fought there with the 5th comando in the '60's.

If the reports on the UN troops are true they were probably to busy looking for young boys to bother.

Don't believe so Mickey1. The "peacekeepers" are all African Union, with some UN advisors. This was going to be an "African only" operation.

Mickey, The peace keepers in question are actually mostly from RSA and Zim as I understand it...

Brings to mind an experience I observed some years back in RSA, I believe it was 1996, when authorities arrested the witch doctor near Phillip Prices digs on the Swartkei...The good doctor had purchased a 12 year old boy, killed him, cut him up and dried all the parts to jery (biltong) then pounded that up into powder and sold it to the old men for the African version of Viagra, the fountain of youth so to speak...The hung him in CapeTown after his trial...but the practice is still going on.

We are talking about Africa, it is still Africa, and the indigenous of Africa are still of the bush, even the politicians are heathens in blue serge suits and white collars with ring around the collar, they show up at the UN and meet with the president, but go home and toss their newborn to the Lions because it was born feet first...We turn out backs to reality and play the political correct game....

More barbarism in Africa.

And democracy in Africa means everyone gets an "equal" vote. Yet they eat each other and kill friends for body parts.

During the period I lived in RSA I was told that "you may get a black subsaharan african out of the bush but you never ever will get the bush out of him". So I wonder if it would not be better to leave them alone with their problems like, tribal behaviour, selfmade humanitarian catastrophes, cannibalism, illiteracy and so on. I know that they blame us for their situation because of colonialism but hell there passed 60 years and everything got worse. At least their economy worked when they took over. But look at South Africa now. It took them only 10 years to lower it at the level of a developing country.

I have yet to see any African country run by blacks go anywhere but backwards.

RSA is proving me right yet again.

Racism? No, just the facts, ma'am.

Hello PC,
Well, if someone should call you such terrible names I can tell you for one, backup will be there and you could not be more correct in your statement!! I am normally very liberal with what others do as long as it does not endanger my way of life and freedoms earned over the loss of blood and treasure as America has spend over the past 200 plus years and be damned if some blue beret is going to dictate anything to me and a bunch of others I know.
