The following quote was copied from a web page:

"HUNT INSIDE GREATER KRUGER:

I have again secured the hunting rights for this season on an area INSIDE Greater Kruger. It is the chance of a Lifetime to hunt this otherwise non hunting area that forms part of the greatest game reserve in Africa .

A limited quota of Buffalo, Elephant, Kudu, Waterbuck and Impala are available. The 2007 season in this area was extremely successful. "

Can the statement be true? If so, how can I, or for that matter anyone else, also get such a concession?

In good hunting.

As I understand it, those private properties bordering the Kruger which took down their fences are considered part of "Greater Kruger". I also understand that hunting is allowed on these properties (not in the Park itself)and one must be accompanied by an official from the Park, so the statement is true as far as I know.

You can't hunt inside the KNP proper but as Wink says, the Greater Kruger is a different area (Klaserie etc) and permits (often at short notice) are available at fairly decent prices but accommodation in some areas ain't ideal.

Probably the best guy to comment on these areas is Rudi/375 Fanatic as he knows the story, has a lot of buddies in the Parks Board and I think has hunted there........... I'll give him a call and ask him to post when he gets time. Wink

Contacting the owners of the properties bordering the Kruger might be more effective than contacting officials of the Park. It is private property after all.

Andrew,

All the above is true, and no the outfitter is not lying....it actualy sounds like one of my ads....although it is not....

I'm one of the outfitters conducting hunts in the Greate Kruger, so you are welcome to give me a call if you need some more info than what is given here.

Prices to hunt there is very steep, and the hunting is very restricted. I have an Elephant hunt there currently available at $25k, full exportable trophy, but we are not allowed to shoot a bull with tusks in excess of 35lbs in weight.....sometimes they stretch it a bit and say we can go to 40lbs, but it does not happen a lot.....You can shoot the same Ele in Zim or Namibia for about $12k....

How do you get a concession there......? I do not know.....but I can tell you that is a very "closed" thing, and not a lot of people have access to hunting this wonderful piece of Africa!

All the old private conservancies like the Balule, Klaserie, Timbavati, etc....are now part of this, as well as certain parts of Mozambique. Everyone dropped their fences, and this was done mainly to get the animals to use their old migratory routes (I have been told in any case), as well as to create a bigger conversation biodome.

All hunting takes place in these areas, regulated by Parks Board, and no hunting in the Park, as it was known is allowed.

We are negotiating a 20 year lease, with hunting rights, with the Mozambique gov. for 100 000acres that borders the Kruger in the North East, and there are no fences there either.....and this is the boundary between two countries!!!

I hope this helps......

Thanks Wink, Steve and infinito: I have been, as the ad was probably designed to do, fooled into "reading" that the HO is offering hunts inside the Kruger National Park. As you indicate; Big difference between the poorly known, at least by myself, "Greater Kruger" and the actual Kruger National Park.

Thanks Charl for the offer, but at this point in time I'm not into offering DG hunts: Certainly not at about double what more or less the same can be offered elsewhere. Big Grin

Am I glad to hear that the KNP is still "Off Limits" to all hunting??? Confused

In good hunting.

Andrew, I represent Stormberg Elangeni Safaris here in the States. We offer hunting in the Kalaserie and Timbavati areas of the KNP. We just took a magnificent Lion there 3 weeks back for an American client. We took 3 Buff there also this past season. Hunting is available but strictly limited to the Big 5, no plains game on quota.

I think charl summed it up perfectly

the hunt you will get in the kruger park is with hing chong cha outfitter and the weapon of choice is a ak47 and the only animal on is black rhino you need to be very fitt and inshape.

the accomodation is under a buffalo thorn and meals are served while you are running. i dont know what it costs or the daily rates and you dont have to sign a contract lol
