ZIMBABWE CONSERVATION TASK FORCE

Only after the last tree has been cut down.
Only after the last river has been poisoned.
Only after the last fish has been caught.
Only then will you find that money cannot be eaten.

WALTER PALMER

It is with great regret that we announce that the Zimbabwean authorities have decided not to prosecute Walter Palmer for killing Cecil the lion. According to them, all Palmer's paper work and documents were in order so he didn't break any laws. We don't agree with this at all and we intend to try other avenues to have him prosecuted.

OPEN SEASON ON ELEPHANTS

The rate at which elephants are being killed in Zimbabwe is truely disturbing. Last week, 14 were killed - 3 in Matusadona and 11 in Hwange National Park. 16 were found dead in Lupande and 10 in Chakabvi in Nyamatela. Many of these elephants have been poisoned with cyanide. 14 tusks have been recovered but the other tusks were taken by the poachers. The problem with the cyanide poisoning is that other animals are dying as well. 2 vultures were found poisoned after eating the carcass of one of the elephants and an eland was found snared. A packet containing 1 kilogram of cyanide was also found by the authorities. 36 carcasses were found near Sinamatella in Hwange National Park in the Dzivanini area. This totals 76 elephants killed in the past 2 weeks.

BIG TUSKER KILLED

A huge elephant with tusks weighing 122 pounds was killed in Gonarezhou by a German hunter. We suspect this elephant may have come from Kruger Park. His tusks were so big that they dragged along the ground when he was walking.

The most disapponting thing is that when a local Zimbabwean kills an animal for food for his family, he is sentenced to between 5 and 15 years in prison but when a wealthy foreign hunter comes in and shoots an animal, he gets away with it. What message are we giving the people?

Interesting Post by Mr. Rodriguez. It seems that he is both Anti-Hunting and Anti American but we really do not know enough about him or this Organization.

Anyone else know anything about this gentleman? We were told by people in country that this gentleman is definitely not pro hunting only pro government and himself. Do not know.

Zimbabwe: Elephant with massive ivory tusks killed in legal hunt

HARARE, Zimbabwe – The killing of a huge elephant in Zimbabwe has been confirmed by the national parks agency, which defended the legal hunt as a source of much needed money for communities living near game parks.

Wildlife conservationists are livid about the shooting of an elephant said to be one of the biggest in Africa.

The elephant was killed by a "foreign client" in a safari hunting area bordering Gonarezhou National Park in south-east Zimbabwe, the national parks said in a statement Saturday.

The killing was legal but "unethical," said Johnny Rodrigues of the Zimbabwe Conservation Taskforce.

The controversy over the elephant comes after the killing of a well-known lion named Cecil in July sparked international outrage. At least 40 elephants were poisoned by cyanide in the country's biggest game reserve, Hwange National Park, earlier this month.

The large male elephant was killed in the Malipati Safari area, where legal hunting channels fund to poor rural communities living near game reserves, said the parks.

"Such hunts go a long way in assisting communities in the surrounding area. Communities will benefit from revenue generated from wildlife-based projects, including hunting in the area," said the parks statement.

The elephant was killed on Oct. 7 October and its ivory tusks weighed 55 kilograms (121 pounds) and 54 kilograms (119 pounds), according to the parks.

"That's a premium trophy," said Professional Hunters and Guides Association president Louis Muller. "Some big game hunters can come back to Zimbabwe every year for 30 years and spend up to a million dollars over that period with the hope of killing such an animal," said Muller.

Muller said the fact that the elephant survived long enough to grow such large tusks is evidence that Zimbabwe's conservation efforts are successfully protecting elephants.

Mr. Rodriguez appears truly to be a true Anti-Hunter the more one reads anything this guy posts. From where does he originate? He obviously does not care for anyone who is successful in life or has saved for their big dream Safari. Is he a shake down guy? Someone out there must know his background? He come across to me as a Trojan Horse. There is plenty of ink generated by and about this gentleman.

I say let those idiots donate all they want because none of the money goes to interfere with hunting anyway. The people who get these funds pocket the money anyway, to buy large homes and expensive automobiles and travel the world over.

The misinformed antis go broke and the collectors get rich with their con game that works because the donators are clueless as to what real conservation is. The only conservation that works is giving the game a monetary value and installing quotas that only take the surplus, insuring the long term existence of a species. This also causes habitat to be conserved for all wildlife that lives there, not just game animals!

Anti hunting people are the most uninformed people in the world today. If there system was made the rule, there would not be any habitat that was not turned into farms, and anything that tried to feed on the crops there would simply poisoned or shot to protect the crops.

The thought process that says the trophy hunter takes the best of the species and in the quote above made mention of how large the tusks were of the very old elephant just harvested. What these people do not realize is the elephant tusks only get that big with extreme age, and that fact alone tells the informed that this elephant has already spread his genes over seventy or eighty years, and his offspring are still spreading his genes.

If what they say made sense they would have you shooting the young long before they aged to breading age.

The anti hunting fraternity suffers from wildlife ignorance. These folks would have every spot of land in the world covered with concrete and Starbucks coffee shops with all animals left being in fenced places so they could go take pictures of hand fed animals that have no free life to go where they please.

Ask the parks dept how much he has so called "donated towards conservation" in the last 5 yrs... ZERO!! Yet his website says they he donated over $500k to conservation.

His son and daughter race expensive cars at harares donnybrooke race track on weekends.. He is not liked in Zimbabwe. Not bad going for an unemployed man. Guess all those donations got to go somewhere..

Unfortunately there will always be people who are sucked in by his bullshit and propaganda. He is a scum bag and a thorn in the side of true conservationists.

The question of ZCTF's money has been on peoples' minds for years, but they are careful. The government is not pro-ZCTF, and they would love an excuse to make something stick. Because of crap like "tusks dragging on the ground" he basically has no credibility here or anywhere else.

Bear in mind one soldier wins a war - Rodriquez is just one foot soldier in a Battalion of anti hunting warriors , we cannot ignore one anti hunter , we cannot ignore one anti hunting article , collectively they are a massive force , and they will fight to the death as to say , but at the same time we need to win the hearts and minds of every voter be it corporation or country. We can only do this by being calm and feed the facts.
As hunters we can appluad the great trophy taken but as conservationists and responsible hunters we need to acknowledge that a vast majority do not support the shooting of elephant of this stature , so we need to adjust our code to take note of current society moral standards.
If they do not understand then it is our fault we skipped that step and we need to return to educating our children and schools so that hunting is understood from the grass roots , to educating each and every misinformed blog / tweeter / facebook commentator. If we dont they will close hunting.

We all know that people like Rodriquez and his like use conservation and animal welfare to extract donations from good intensioned people, and the only way to combat this is to keep feeding the truth back into the media.

The spelling of the name would indicate he is from a Portugese lineage, not Spanish. He is, apparently, the one who blew up the story of the Zim lion,(whose social media name I will not mention), then spread the false rumor that the litter mate of said lion was also killed. Since there are so very many ways for folk in Africa to come to grief, it is surprising that this lout is still causing trouble. Perhaps some of the cyanide that seems to be floating around Zim these days would be an appropriate apertif.

Anything to do with this bloody idiot is a big lie!

He only cares for how much money he can get from the stupid ignorance of those who donate money to him.

Any criminal can set up an organization with the word "conservation" in it, and they get people who are so bloody ignorant of the facts to give him money!

Apparently the charity rating services don't know anything about ZCTF either. Probably just another scam getting money to run his mouth. Advocating is just a more PC term for lobbying.

He's been around for years and years and is known for publishing outlandish claims and then having to backpedal. The government would love to get some dirt on him and the fact they haven't may be significant.

Johnny is an used care salesman. Back in 2002 when we were working with the US government to block Illegal hunters from going to the USA to market hunts, Jonny would come rushing in to Sally Bowns Office (Admin Officer for both Soaz and ZPHGA) or mine and throw out 'facts' - but never proof. After nearly four years of trying to get 'out of Africa banned, with almost weekly reports, unsuported by fact, from Jonny it was one of our "new" black members that delivered the proof that both the Zimbabweand US governments need to act (and the EU jumped in.

Johnny has done more harm to conservation than any 10 poachers with their AK's.

Also, the day after Dr Palmer shot 'cecil' Another hunter shot a collared lion 20km South. Very Little has been said about that since the PH was Headman Sibanda, and if johnny opens his mouth about headman he'll need to see Dr Palmer for a new set of teeth. Headman has beaten him up on one occasion, pistol whiped the Director of National parks etc. so Jonny leaves him alone.

In brief, he is a regular grade oxygen thief living off bleeding heart Money (and living very well thankyou)
