Ok,, I have waited since Tuesday night for this to pop up and I haven't seen it. Tuesday night late,,, post election I got tired of all the political stuff and jumped channels to the outdoor channel. As an avid bow hunter the trailer caught my attention. It was called, "In the Attack Zone" MacMillan River adventures,, Keith Mark host and Sean Micheal were cross bow hunting for Elephants in Zim....Those guys got dang close to getting smashed into a pulp and the Ph had to shoot a charging elephant to save their lives! Interesting was at the charge, the Ph was backing up when he shot, a bolt action rifle,,, he fell on his butt and was laying on his back when he chambered the second round. Fortunately he brained it with the first shot. He got up quickly with his leg bleeding from the brush he fell on and you can here Keith Mark ask,, "do you want me to shoot him?"[ with his cross bow] Fortunately for me the Ph said no or I might of been sick and puked...Like I said,,, I am an avid bow hunter,, but if archery hunting elephant it won't be with a cross bow,,, maybe with my 416 rigby though.....have a good weekend,, I am headed to the woods...

UNFORTUNATELY.....I saw some of the episode also. That was one of the poorest, sickest, saddest, african hunting shows I have ever seen. How in the world that kind of CRAP can get to the tube I will never know.
Those Mcmillian River boys should be embarrased to show their faces for the remainder of their days. What a puke show.
I felt for the PH......what a couple of ignorant characters he had to deal with. He should have had more sense than to take them as clients......but $$$$ is $$$$, and I am sure he needed the $$$$.
I do not know a stronger word than S-A-D.

Who was the PH?? The legal instrument that allows bow hunting in Zim (SI 11 of 1998) specifically prohibits crossbows, long bows and recurves...only compound bows allowed. It was a sop to Investigations branch to ensure only compound bows were legal (so they could prosecute shangaan 'traditional hunters' -who use bows- for hunting with an illegal weapon as well as 'poaching'..the ban on crossbows was included to satisfy the police who have been watching 'the wild geese' too often and managed to include crossbows and silencers as 'terrorist' weapons along with flame throwers, handgrenades and Oven cleaner (I kid you not).

Not that there is a whole lot of observance of ANY law in some areas of Zimbabwe.

This cluster ran again this morning. My wife and I watched in stupefaction and embarrassment as
these unwitting and unaware Keystone Cops,stumbled about,failing to heed instructions while regurgitating their narrative interpretation of what was transpiring. As to the crossbow.. was that tactical? (Did you notice the handle on beam?)

I never cease to be amazed at the tripe that some so called hunters spew on the public. With such poorly produced and disgusting programing it is no wonder we are under such acute pressure. POGO got it. "We have met the enemy and he is us."

Makes me appreciate the quality of TAA even more.

Here is the correct information, for those who may want to review this for themselves. I'm recording it. Next showing is Saturday 11/10 at 4:00 p.m. PST:

Channel = Outdoor Channel

Program = Shawn Michaels MRA

Episode = "The Attack Zone"

Description = Shawn and Keith are hunting for elephant in Zimbabwe, Africa. See just how dangerous it can be when they have a close encounter with a big elephant.

That is one of the hunting shows that I absolutely abhor. Bozos, the lot of them. Must have some sponsors that really worships them is all I can say. What part of being a sportsman do they not comprehend? To kill just for the sake of killing. Not interested in quick, clean and ethical kills.........

Amen to all of the above. I saw this a couple of months ago and I could not believe it. They were lucky the PH brained it. Those two idiots were ethically impaired. Wonder what they will try next, blow gun hunting a cape buffalo?

WE do get the Outdoor Channel here in the UAE.

And the very few times that I have watched it, and saw a so called "hunting" show on, I was never able to watch more than a couple of minutes.

They really have nothing to do with hunting, but a bunch of glorified, B rated Hollywood star wannabis.

One time I actually recoreded a 24 hour period, hoping to see some of the more realistic shows.

I record this on a hard disk.

Next day I cycled through all the shows recorded, and I was still disappointed with what was shown.

These sort fo shows all have a terribly negative effect on us hunters. And I honestly have no idea why TV channels even bother showing them.

I saw this episode several weeks ago and what struck me was the absolute stupidity of Keith Marks in a very dangerous situation. When they approached this cow herd the PH saw that things were going pear shaped and when Marks gave some audio explanation to the camera the PH told him to be quiet. Although you couldn't see the elephant that charged it was obvious that the PH could and by his body attitude you could see he was on high alert. He correctly deduced the danger of the situation. Marks then again started talking to the camera and the charge then happened. I suspect that Marks voice was the triggering mechanism to the charge. Utter stupidity on Marks part.

These two cleaned up at the Outdoor Channel Awards last year. The professional wrestler, country music singers, NASCAR drivers and such are in style as the NEW BREED of hunters of choice. Thats why Tracks needs your votes!

OK, here's the info I gathered from watching this POS:

PH Tim Lamprecht
Louis Beukes, Owner - Hunt Essential

My review makes me think the Ele went down from a "near miss" brain shot and follow up shot(s) were made but not shown. I do hope some of the Zim folks on AR will pursue the clear violation of hunting Ele with a crossbow. The show should be all that is needed to sustain the violation.

Louis Beukes is listed as the Group CEO and founder of "Huntessential Fishfantastic" located in Gaborone, Botswana with representatives in Spain, Russia and the USA. www.huntessential.com

I found a T.J. Lamprecht listed as a licensed Zim PH (1999). I do not know that this is the Tim Lamprecht shown in the show.

So many screwups here it is hard to list them all. In addition to what y'all have mentioned,how about the fact that Shawn Michaels is hunting ele with a crossbow on his FIRST trip to Africa! I also think that when the "fishermen" poachers were first seen the day before, a 2100 fps warning would have been in order. And when the PH realised that the eles had no where else to go but through him and his party, he should have sent everyone into high-speed retreat instead of waiting things out. From the circular movement of the downed ele's hind leg, I believe that the brain shot was true. To his credit, the PH did a very good job of muzzle control on his rifle when he fell over backwards--a subject that has been beat to death in AR this year. What an irony and a bloody shame that good PHs have died this year, while a foolish PH and his moronic clients are still breathing!

Tim Lamprecht and the outfitter he is working for should be avoided by any decent hunter!

It is funny how the same names pop up at times. first Tim Lamprecht. Now Hunt Essentials, MacMillan River Adventures and Sean Michael.

http://www.monstermuleys.info/...DCForumID53/156.html

I have had several PM's asking me who I hunted with and as of now I have had no desire to talk about my hunt with anyone. Lets just say I've been extremely worked up. I hunted with huntessentials & fishfantastic. They keep taking mcmillan river adventures with shaun michaels hunting and ray bunny and jim burnsworth. I figured with guys from tv going i couldn't go wrong right? wrong! did you guys know that shaun michales shot his croc with his bow out of a damn pen? yep thats right a 70 yd by 70 yard heavy guage sheep wire pen cemented about 3 feet into the ground. How do I know? Because I fell for the same thing. We were told the so called small high fence area was open in the reeds in the back and thats how the croc got in. Terra shot him through the fence. Upon further investigation I discovered the entire pen in tact and that I was lied to. In addition I paid my emailed contract in full before I left. I paid $54,000 for 2 leopards, a croc, a buffalo, and 23 nights of accomodations. I know the daily rate is usually included in the price of 2 14 day leopard hunt packages but I wasn't arguing at the time. well when I discovered the buffalo were in a 3000 acre high fence area I decided not to shoot one and to allow my wife to trade it for a sable. Well she got her sable and we ended up shooting 3 zebra, 2 impala, a bushbuck, and 3 kudu in addition to what we originally paid for. Well I was expecting about a $8,000 additional bill for the extra animals. What I got was an extra bill for $30,000! We had excesive fuel use charges, administrative fees, bait fees etc... I was told each leopard will have baits included. We shot a total of 11 baits. 3 of those were trophy zebra I was willing to pay for. In addition we sat in camp 5 days total for lack of legal hunting permits and 3 separate days because we ran out of fuel. I paid for the leopard permits out of pocket and started handing my ph's money for fuel just so we could hunt so to charge me $1,000 for excessive fuel was a joke. In addition all ph's were told we would only be hunting leopards 5 days as we were using dogs and we would be out. Well it turned out that we were there 19 days. They thought I should pay extra because they hadn't planned on 2 cats taking that long. we didn't know every cat we chased would cover 20 miles and then hide in caves. Lets just say I told them to eat all my trophies and never contact me again.

If this report is accurate (I have no reason not to believe it is), hopefully it is not how all of Hunt Essentials hunts are conducted and how MacMillan River Adventures shows are filmed.

If one looks closely at the outfitters who provide the animals that score very high in the SCI trophy book, one can see all sort of unetyhically gotten animals.

But, SCI chooses to turn a blind eye to it.

And in turn the same crooked outfitters keep getting more business from crooked "trophy hunters" just because "they can deliver animals on demand!

Yup, thats TL alright. I watched that episode awhile back. I remember Tim telling me what a nightmare that hunt was. If he said that, it must have been pretty bad. I heard that TL lost his license, but I bet he is still at it somewhere. Maybe right there in the sij with Wayne D. I also had to wonder if Adam Clements was the agent?

I am going to start a new thread in regards to Africa and the Outdoor Channels.
.

I saw this show a couple of months ago, got all worked up, and then forgot. You come away wishing the elephant would have won.
.
This seems to be a pattern with the hunting channels (also Sportsman). Western Extreme Asshole, and his lion, NW NONHUNTER, Scott Haugen and his tame Lions, etc.

I went to the Outdoor Channel booth for two years to express my disgust with them and with there portrayal of African hunting. Clueless idiots, with no regard for the portrayal of ethical hunting. They had no idea what I was talking about. Actually they didn't give a shit.

Maybe I could get thru to them on a larger Scale?
