Eyedoc In Sweden moose hunting is not primarily a trophy hunt it is a hunt where the main objective is getting meat on the table. The meat is then passed out to all the members of the local moose foundation. You are given post on a driven hunt and if a moose comes your way you shoot it. Normally there are one or two big trophy bulls tree to four cows and several calfs on the areas hunting licence. Maybe Martin can tell you more about this great Swedish tradition. But thanks for disrespecting my young bull which by the way has the finest meat. Cheers, Andr

Andr is right. We shoot about 100.000 moose in Sweden every year, and we have to shoot that number to keep the population in balance. It becomes a trophy hunt once there is a trophy bull in your scope, but otherwise all kinds of moose are allowed. The only ethical restriction is that you must shoot the calves befor you shoot the cow. Depending on the structure of the local population there can be further restrictions - sometimes to spare bulls with a certain number of points to get more trophy animals, or to shoot more cows if there are too many moose in that area. We have a license system, when the local hunt get a permission to shoot a specified number, based on inventories. Regards, Martin
