It appears that this National Geographic program showing the conflict between lions and hyenas will be on the National Geographic Channel Monday morning at 2:00 AM Central time. I had considered buying the DVD but will now get a chance to watch the program before buying.

This is the description from NG:

Never-before-seen footage, much of it filmed at night, takes you into the mysterious world of Botswana's lions and hyenas. Their intense, even vicious, clashes go beyond competition, almost as if the animals were nurturing a blood feud.

For those of you who may have seen the video Lion Hyena War on the internet, the footage is from this National Geographic progam. (If the video link does not work, try this one.)

There is a good scene where the male lion decides he has had enough and deals with the matriarch in no uncertain terms. Do watch it.

The scene where the bigcats and the bigdogs are feeding off the same carcass, is also rather interesting.

That is my favorite part from the internet clip -- looking forward to watching the full video.

I h've watched this video countless times. It's absolutely incredible. Yep, the scene showing a beautiful male lion chasing and killing the matriarch is my favourite too.

The DVR is my friend! Much better than trying to stay up to watch it.

I had this on the DVR and watched it over a couple of evenings this week. Very interesting if not necessarily easy to watch at all times.

At the end, while the big male was chasing the matriarch, I tried to imagine myself in front of him with a rifle...

It looks like this will be airing on the National Geographic Channel again on June 29 (1:00 PM Central time) for any who missed it before.

Predators at War and Hyenas at War will be on NGC on the 30th (4:00 PM and 7:00 PM Central time, respectively, with Hyenas repeating at 10:00 PM Central and 10:00 AM on July 1).
