How many people that visit Namibia purchase this? What are people's view on this?

Namibia is pretty safe, but I would get it if I were you. Anything can happen in Africa.

I had made 14 African safaris without any problem but I always carried medical evacuation insurance with MedJet Assist. In 2008 my wife and I made our 15th safari. While travelling south on the N1 from Mokopane to Johannesburg a semi driver on the other side of the highway apparently fell asleep at the wheel. He came across the highway and hit us nearly head-on. We rolled and bounced for more than 200 yards. I survived with relatively minor injuries (2 people perished in the accident) and my wife required emergency hospitalization and surgery. I called MedJet and requested their assistance. They exceeded all my expectations and got my wife and I home with exceptional service. They even sent a flight nurse to accompany us and smooth the path. I cant find enough good words to thank them and describe the service they provided. Not all accidents happen in the bush. It could be a heart attack, appendicitis, or a highway accident. MedJet will get you home. GET EVACUATION INSURANCE.

I bought it for Namibia. I travel internationally quite a bit on business and the company provides evacuation insurance which has been very useful to friends of mine on a number of occasions. The company coverage doesn't extend to private trips so I always buy it for any international trip I make.

Never worry about theory as long as the machinery does what it's supposed to do.

It's a must have for Africa and will cover you in the U.S. as well as anywhere in the world - vacations, business trips, as well as hunting.

Which service are you talking about? The service I was looking at was $160 for 2 weeks.

Another thought, Check with your Insurance company and see what they cover out of country and get the overseas phone # for them. 800 #'s wont work in Africa. The NRA also offers a policy as well as Travelguard and global Rescue.

Go with Global Rescue. You can sign up for week long plans. Definitely worth the money when you need it.

Remember, what distinguishes good from excellent is when they will transport you even if it is not medically necessary. That is the difference.

Nobody wants to be stuck in an Africa hospital when they can recover in a US hospital close to home.

I've bought the annual MedJet policy for many years. The cost of medical evacuation from a foreign country would bankrupt many folks. Your local health insurance policy will not evacuate you. They will likely reimburse your foreign medical expenses (after a fight) but evacuation is on you. Suggest you review MEDJET website.

I've used Gobal Rescue. I haven't compared the 2 recently but the difference was that GR will cover extraction from the field while Medjet covers you "after" you have been transported to a nearby medical facility.

An example would be if you are in a remote area and break your leg, appendicitis, heart problems. etc. With medjet you would need to be locally transported via vehicle or by air at your expense to the nearest medical facility. With global rescue they would arrange and cover helicopter extraction to the medical facility if it was appropriate.

Well, a hospital in Namibia or South Africa would be about one-fifth the price and you would get better care. A U.S. hospital is one of the few places where I feel a person really needs the "right to carry" in order to protect himself from physical harm (not to mention fiscal ruin).

I know of a Los Angeles cardiologist who came down with a severe infection. He insisted that he be treated at home because he felt he might never come out of a hospital alive.

I have Global Rescue. For an individual the rate is $340 per year for medical reasons. It also can be used in USA if you are over 160 miles from your residence. Consider purchasing supplemental evacuation insurance for an additional 300$ per year. If you cannot get out of the country because of natural disaster, terrorism or any other reason the airports will not fly...global rescue will come get you.

Are you kidding? I was in the finest hospital in East Africa, The Nairobi Hospital. So, I can compare the best Africa has to offer with what we have here.

I have to disagree with you ... unless you are talking about Parkland, in which case, I might want to be transfered to Nairobi! Big Grin

Africa does not have the technology or level of care that you will receive here. If it is my life on the line, I do not particularly care what it costs. Send me to Dallas.

The difference in care form The Nairobi Hospital to Baylor Grapevine is incredible.
