Zimbabwe: Jumbo Kills Boy (5)
By Chinhoyi Bureau, 3 April 2012Comment

A FIVE-year-old Magunje boy died recently after being thrown to the ground by an elephant that attacked him in a maize field. Takudzwa Kabatamuswe of Makudzachamba Village under Chief Nyamhunga in Magunje, Hurungwe district was on his way to a nearby homestead to deliver a cellphone in the company his sister Shelter (21) and a brother last Friday when the tragedy occurred.

The elephant emerged from a maize field and attacked them.

Mashonaland West police spokes-person Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara confirmed the incident.

He said Takudzwa's fate was sealed when he got up to run away.

As the young boy tried to escape, the elephant gave chase and caught up with him. It reportedly hoisted him and threw him to the ground. The toddler died on the spot.

"The other two managed to escape without any injuries," he said.

The elephant disappeared into the forest and the Hurungwe District Council Campfire is tracking it.

Police attended the scene and Takudzwa's body was taken to Karoi Hospital mortuary.

SURELY A SENTIENT BEAST WOULDN'T ATTACK AND KILL A CHILD-( see other posts here about about elephants being sentient animals that perhaps shouldn't be hunted). at the end of the day, an elephant is just another wild African animal that does what other wild African animals do- be it fight or flight.
