In a previous thread regards (big delays) for some hunters at times getting import/export permits upon arrival at JIA

AS PHASA members we (Balla-Balla) rec'd a general overview newsletter from PHASA which included amongst many other issues a short excerpt, which I copy below

--------------------------------
(quote in their newsletter)

Specifically we immediately need incident reports of clients being held up at the airport. Please send us dates, times, flight numbers etc the police deny there is a problem!!

(end of quote)
-----------------------------------

It may be totally coincidental that this action request was made by PHASA BUT I dont believe so .....

VERY SOON after I suggested it on AR, a couple of our (vaued AR guests) sent in their (adverse reports) to PHASA on JIA incidents which directly effected them

Thanks in particular to [ patrkyhntr ] and [ bwananrn ] and any others whom might have contacted PHASA with incident reports as maybe it has started the ball rolling ... thumb

... and thanks to the new PHASA chairman ( Stewart Dorrington ) for his excellant and prompt following up on the matter, it may get no where but at least some have taken the first step and formally complained in writing ....

Regards, Peter

Peter,

You might ask them what service it is that Optima and Air2000 are providing and how it is that the can get enough clients to make it worth while. The fact that they are in business of "expiditing" the process and "eliminating" the queue, even as a side-line, is testiment that there is a problem.

Kinda like the fact that tax accountants exist here in the U.S.

Now I've used Air2000 and was quite happy with thier service. I certainly am not complaining about them. It's just that they are there to help hunters get around that inefficient line and paperwork, plain and simple.

Can you give a little more detail about what Optima and Air2000 do, how to get in touch with them, etc. I have never had a problem at JNB or Windhoek, (Paris and London are another story), but I'd like to know more about them as things appear to be getting more difficult.

Steve

I dont know how well versed you are in African Politics and red tape ....

but essentially to get job done in Africa takes a hell of a lot of heartache blood sweat and tears at times ... Optima & others are ONLY as I see it offering a paid sevice to those whom want to ease the pain of missed flights and other blood pressure issues ..

PHASA & hunters know there is a problem BUT in africa and particularily the new SA it is like moving a mountian to get some issues heard let alone resolved, so yes I believe they all know the problem exists but diplomacy ( which I personally dont like much ) has to prevail as there are BEE ( Black Empowerment ) issues that have surfaced within the whole country and the hunting industry (private or other) are not immune.

I am from the (old school thinking) where diplomacy was not one of our strong points, so it seems my (outdated) views on life and general issues are in (todays PC world) overuled and becoming irrelavant, we are called head in the sand OLD BAS..RD DINOSOURS Mad

Peter,

I'm sorry. I was a bit flip.

I'm certain that I don't know the politics of Africa as well as you or others on this forum. I also understand that PHASA sees the problem, but need the political weight that formal complaints bring.

Sometimes I have an incredible grasp of the obvious and it just got the best of me. Roll Eyes

I should have hit the close icon rather than the "post now" button.

Hey Steve

No it was definately not taken as a bit flip, to the contary ...

Just me not using words correctly and maybe also toooooo much SUN and OUTDOORS from my days in Africa, or OLD AGE catching up on me boohoo

Man can those SOB's in Africa test ones patience toooooooooooooo the limit

Below is the reality of what WE ALL FACE in the new SA, like it or not > I think !!! to resist will be like piss..g in a hurricane

Peter
----------------------------------

PHASA is proud to be moving forward on BEE issues. We see this empowerment drive as imperative to our industry - and if we want to be recognised by government and by business as a whole, we have to embrace BEE. Without governments recognition and support, our industry as we know it will disappear.
