Anyone ever tried a "Thermocell" for bugs in Africa? Seems to work well here in the deep south U.S.A. where I hunt.

When you're sitting still, tsetse flies don't bother you, which is the only time a thermocell works on mosquitoes. When riding around in an open vehicle or checking for tracks around a water hole, with all respect, your thermocell would then be worthless.

Mike,

I took the oil with me last year, and it seemed to work pretty well. It has a pleasant lemon oil scent to it, and won't hurt the finish on your gun. Pierr'es wife Anneli liked it a lot, and I left two bottles with her in Tanzania. I still got bit while using the oil, but it seemed to work as well as the deet based product I took, without all the associatted problems with deet. Have a great trip, and send my regards to all in camp. I am going for 21 days next year so leave me something to shoot at.

Retreever & 1115,
What is the web address for the product? I was able to find a listing for an outfit called Nature's Gift up in Tenn., are they the suppliers? My wife hates Deet based products, this could be a big help to insure domestic tranquility.

Mike, I have a bumper sticker on one of my gun cases that has a picture of a Tsetse fly on one end, and reads: "I gave blood in Zambia!" and I ain't kidding, I gave gallons of the red stuff! Any place where there are Buffalo, there will be Tsetse flys. Hope your gel works! Confused beer

Skeeter Beater

A blend of our Lemonscented Tea Tree (the most powerful natural insect repellant that I know of), Atlas Cedarwood, and our Sumatran Patchouli. Friends have raved about the success they've had keeping fleas off dogs, horseflies off horses, and mosquitoes off themselves with this blend. At a recent Healh Festival Debi discovered that a band of diluted SkeeterBeater around each ankle kept the Chiggers from attacking. Add a few drops of the synergy to the pool of melted wax in a patio candle, dissolve in alcohol and add distilled water for a spritzer, or just add to your favorite massage base to keep the skeeters away. The scent of the blend is sweetly lemon, with an earthy undertone. Yummy and smilebringing even if it served no useful purpose. Read some clients' experience with our SkeeterBeater Blend. Available in undiluted synergy, and body oil, diluted in our lightest carrier oil, Fractionated Coconut.

Hehehe!!! Do you eat it, wear it to a "New Age" concert or use it as an aphrodisiac! Eeker

When riding in the truck, lighting up a cigar and blowing the smoke down into the footwells and then around the cab will drive tetses out the windows.

Especially good for stopping the attacks on the back of your legs and your ankles.

I enjoy a good cigar now and again but I fired up more in eighteen days Zim than a year here at home. A good cigar at 7:00 in the morning is better than flies in the truck.

Cigarrette smoke doesn't work FYI.

Try the Buzz Off clothing it works great for tetses. I used it in Zimbabwe in 2004 on my buffalo hunt. They have pants, shirts, socks, and hats. I had my Buzz Off on while riding in the truck and my PH got was getting the hell eaten out of him, he asked why I was not getting bit so I told him about it. I left some shirts for him to use.

Good Hunting,
