Thanks, Will. I reckon the 9.9 pound Heym is more like a sportscar, and the 10.7 pound Merkel is like a more rugged SUV, a real beater.

I would still rather keep my Merkel out of the lake, since it shoots a whole lot better than a concrete block.

Correction is called for. I only use my Merkels as yacht anchors. My lower guns are used to anchor the boats, as they are not as heavy or as strong.

And the distinction here is rather like old club geezers arguing whether their next climb on Everst should be up the east or west route: doesnt matter and wont happen.

These are good choices for us all to have: merkel or heym or krieghoff or chapuis or searcy.

I would go for the buffet if possible.
