I'm working on a 300 win mag load for african plains game, specifically zebra, kudu and gemsbuck. I have tried the 180 Nosler Combined Technology Partition and the best I have been able to do is about 1.75" @ 100 yards. Out of curiosity, I loaded up some 180 grain Rem PSPCL bullets and they shoot under 1" at 100! I still have some 200 grain partitions to try, but the core locks shoot the best so far?? I'm glad the rifle shoots the cheap bullets that well, but I'm not sure they are up to the task of taking the three animals mentioned??? Is this asking too much for the PSPCL???

I select my bullets based on the worst possible shot presentation. That means raking or full-frontal shots on standing game, and shots at animals running away after being hit. The Core-Lokt is a good bullet, but using one on an EXPENSIVE African safari is false economy. Change powders, primers, even brass, but use a controlled-expansion bullet in that .300Win.Mag.! I agree with George, A Safari is to expensive to let a bullet ruin it..The corelokt is a fine bullet of yesterday and still a good one for the regular stuff but it should be slowed down to 06 velocity to make certain of 100% integrity... I suspect the 180 or the wonderfull 200 gr. Nosler partition will shoot in your gun with about 75 to 76 grs. or RL-22, my favorite load. start 10% below that and work up..and save me a lot of grief on this forum..See there, I learnt my lesson Alf and DaggaRon ------------------

Ray I was shooting 75 grains of R22 with the CT Partition and couldn't get it to shoot. The same load with the Remington bullet shot great. I'll try the 200 grain partitions and, if that doesn't work, I'll look at something else. I didn't really trust the core lock in the 300, but thought I'd ask anyway, figured maybe somebody knew something I didn't. As a side note, I was working with these two bullets for an elk hunt last fall. My gun has always shot the old Nosler Solid Base 165 grain bullets best of anything I have tried, so I decided to ask Nosler if they would work. The Nosler Tech said the 165 Solid Base bullets would be fine for elk if I stayed away from the shoulder. I used them and got my bull, but I won't ever try that again!

Have you tried the HV of GS Custom? They come in weights of 130, 150, 160 and 170 and you can safely choose the one that shoot more accurately in your rifle because all of them will do the job on plain game.
