I'm probably 3-4 years off my first buffalo hunt, but I figure I've got a year or so to make up my mind as to where to go, and a year or two out for reservations for the best time and PH. I've one plains game hunt under my belt in SA. I've been following the forum here for some time, and think I've narrowed my options. I'm leaning towards Zimbabwe, with an outside shot at the Selous. I will probably take one of my daughters who will be in her late teens. Ideally I'd like to bring her as an observer, with the option of her taking some plains game. Zimbabwe has diverse areas and that's where I'm looking for some recommendations. Bush camp experience, no fancy lodge. A good fair chase hunt more important than horn size. Your help is greatly appreciated. In the mean time, I've got blacktail season opening up in a month, and that will keep me occupied for a few weeks. Thanks.

I vote for Zim, as Zambia, and Moz even higher priced, and lots of good Buff hunting in Zim. Also things like Vic Falls, etc. to visit while there. Have a friend here , who's been to Zim for Buff and had a good time and got a nice one, with his 416 Rem..

+1 for Zim. Either the Zambezi Valley or the Save Conservancy.

Contact:

Charlton McCallum Safaris (i am hunting with next year for Double Tuskless)
Roger Whittall Safaris (I hunted with them last year for Plainsgame)
Zambezi Hunters (I would like to hunt with them in the future for Leopard)

Mike

With kind regards

SSG Safaris - They have the BEST buffalo hunting I have ever seen in Zim! Their prices are better than most, plenty of buff/plains game, and the trophy quality can rival anywhere - including Masailand (but at alot better price)

Of course! Just as I book for others in Zim too, but that doesn't change the fact that SSG has the best buffalo hunting I've seen in Zimbabwe.

I've hunted Masailand for buffalo too, along with many other places/countries, and several of the bulls I saw at SSG on my 18-day hunt that I just returned from last Monday (my 2nd hunt with SSG) rival any bull I've seen anywhere - including the 45" buff I shot in 2009. My two clients on the hunt with me took a 40" bull, and a 44" bull, and on day 17 I finally decided I should hunt buffalo when I saw one that I feel easily would have taped 46" - 47". We came back late in the afternoon and got winded by a couple of smart ole boys!

When considering the number of buffalo in SSG's areas, the trophy quality/potential, and the price - IMO its the best buffalo hunt in Zim.
