Dear Associates of PHASA

As you know, some time back Phasa decided to clean up its act by applying its constitution to its members, even if this meant disciplining its members. When this decision was taken there were some 51 outstanding complaints against Phasa members, some more than three years old.

The good news is that, besides a hearing which happened last week where judgment has not yet been given, we are up to date. It is important to remember that although some members were found guilty of breaches of phasa's constitution, the majority were acquitted or the prosecutor concluded that there was not enough substance in the complaint to warrant a disciplinary hearing. Thus the disciplinary process also must be seen as a form of protection for the members of Phasa who are falsely accused.

As a result of the hearings there is also a need to update the membership list of Phasa - Messrs Dawie Groenewald and Krys Wessels are no longer members of Phasa. According to the sanctions imposed on them by the disciplinary tribunal, they will be able to reapply for membership of Phasa in four and three years time respectively and if they do reapply, Phasa will have to be satisfied that when they do reapply there are no outstanding complaints against them.

Finally, a proposal is being considered by the executive of Phasa that in future if there are any outstanding complaints against a person they must be dealt with before membership is granted. Furthermore such person must be under an obligation to inform Phasa of such complaints when such person applies for membership. If such person does not inform Phasa and a complaint comes to light after membership is granted, such membership should automatically cease. I will keep the membership of Phasa informed of developments in this respect. In the meantime, if members have any views on this proposal please would you send such views to the office of Phasa marked for my attention.

Yes indeed it is good news, but.....

OoA can still continue to do bussiness. It is time that Phasa get more teeth, they should be the controlling body for outfitters and ph's. The only thing that happened is that they are not members of Phasa anymore, but they can continue in all their wrong doings.

The day goverment recognises Phasa as the controlling body for proffesional hunting and gives them more power in implimenting restrictions on the guilty parties, we will have a much better organised hunting industry.

but not enough teeth!
OoAAS certainly will continue business as usual ---these jokers should be sitting in a Zim jail!

SCI needs to cut their dirty ties with them and clean up their act just like PHASA is attempting to do.
I am glad the PHASA is stepping up to the plate to help the industry police itself --only wished PHASA had more teeth than they do.

SCI could be a much stronger organization if it would clean house too.

It is good that the Hunting Report got it right this time, as it appeared in the past that they were snookered by a fake letter of exoneration regarding OOA.
