Comments from Kobus, the PH, regarding the 18/8 2011 buffalo hunt.(Second day) 07.00: We were driving and saw seven buffalos (all bulls) at an orchard. The buffalos are going into the orchards at night eating grass and leaves. Normally they should have gone away. This morning they were late (45-60 min) when we spotted them. 07:02: The buffalos are coming out from the orchard and are feeding. We saw they turned in another direction so we had to change position. We changed position so we had the wind in our favor. 07:05: They were feeding so we wanted to come in front of them. 07:08: Going to the front of them 07:09: The buffalos are walking. At the first spot we could not see them. Putting up the sticks The buffalos stopped in some bushes. We changed position 10 m to the right. 07:14: Set up the sticks again. We saw them standing. There were about 3 of them. They started feeding again. 07:16: One buffalo is looking at us. Ingvar put up his rifle. The buffalo is looking at us. 07:17: About 80 m away. THE buffalo turned left. 07:18: Going the wrong way? 07:23: They started feeding in another direction, to the right. THE buffalo is coming. 07:24: Two buffalos on the screen. 07:25: A tractor is coming with a lot of people behind the buffalos. Those people are working in the orchard. 07:26: That was the one. Tractor is passing. The second buffalo is also a good one. 07:26: “Can you make a good shot?” “Yes”, Ingvar said. He shot at 07.26.52. 07.26.54: Shoulder up of the buffalo. Ingvar is lifting his head. The buffalo is swinging around and takes off 07.26.58. The buffalo turns to the left and is then running away. Ingvar starts looking for the case. PH asked”How did you feel about the shot?” “OK” said Ingvar. Again he is looking for the case. “Karin did you see where it fell?” 07:31: Five minutes after the first shot we went down. Walked towards where the bull was standing. Thomas spotted it. 07:31: Checked if it was the right one. 07:32: The buffalo is swinging. We walked up closer and put down the sticks. Be ready if it is the right one. 07:33 OK, that’s him. Ingvar shot. Reload. The bull is limping into the bush accompanied with two small bellows. Stand by. 07:34: We start walking to see from the other side of the bush if we can see him. As we walked Kobus saw the second one. 07:35: It is another one which is looking at us Kobus asked Karin: “Do you want to take it?” “Yes” was the immediate answer from Karin. Thomas put up the sticks. 07:35: The bull was looking straight at us. 07:35: Karin shot (Frontal shot). A buffalo came out again. Which buffalo is which? We circled more. 07:37: The PH asked Karin to put in more bullets but she had just brought 3 bullets. Let’s circle but first safety on. We went to the right to see if we can see the buffalo in another angle. One buffalo is standing and one on its side. 07:38: One of them is still moving. The other looks as if it is down. First Ingvar was at the sticks but it looked as Karin’s buffalo. 07:40: Karin shot a second shot which dropped him. Within a minute we heard the death bellow. (14 min between first (Ingvar) shot and Karin’s second shot)) 07:41: The buffalo seemed dead. It had stopped moving. 07:42: Going up for insurance shots. Both were dead but just to be sure we had to shoot a 3´rd shot. 07:44: The last shot on Karin’s bull hit the hoof and went into the spine. Kobus, the PH, took Ingvar to the 2´nd buffalo. Thomas stayed to keep an eye on Karin’s buffalo. 07:45: Ingvar shot the 3´rd shot. It was dead long before that, but you never know what those guys (buffalos) are capable to do. 07:45: Ingvar walked up to touch the eye of his buffalo to see the reaction. The buffalo bull was dead and everything was over. | ||
