Plinking Load For The 577 T. Rex

Gentlemen,

We developed this load for the 577 T.Rex to play around here in our shooting range.

The load is 40 grains of UNIQUE and 10 grains of KAPOK, with a standard large rifle primer - in this case RWS. The bullets are our own lathe turned Walterhog, 750 grains.

I fired this group off shooting sticks at 100 yards, with open sights.

Walter, of course, had to get into the act as well, and he said this is good enough to stop a charging buffalo.

Here is his formula:

Group size was 5.615 at 100 yards, therefore:

At 50 yards it is 2.8

At 25 yards it is 1.4

At 10 yards it is 0.5

Very fine shooting. From the looks of the recoil in the videos it would have taken me at least a week to shoot this group. One shot per day with a day or two off in between.

Frank,

This is a reduced load, and does not have much more recoil than a 308 Winchester.

Anyone likes to guess what the velocity of this load is?

Is it possible to develop a plinking load for a monster? You must have a lot of free space in the cartridge. What percentage does the powder take up?

Interesting, where do you get the Kapok from? Do you have three in the garden or bought it?

How come you don't use synthetic fillers?

I thought Kapok IS synthetic?

It is what they use in pillows, and about 10 grains works just right for this load.

The powder just sits at the bottom of the case.

Your friend Walter refuses to shoot this rifle - even when empty!!

He says he does not trust me, which is not very nice, as it really hurts mt feelings at this festive time

1,100 fps.

Saeed,

perhaps you developed this load to work with a 'muffler'?

I made up this load years ago because we were expecting a couple of English friends to visit.

Both husband and wife like to shoot skeet, so I knew they would like to spend sometime in our shooting range and try some of our rifles too.

The husband remembers when I used to slip a magnum load into his shotgun when we shot together, so he was a bit suspicious of what I might do.

Anyway, I loaded a couple of rounds with this load, and put them in the same box with 8 full power loads.

They enjoyed an afternoon of shooting different pistols and rifles, and then I suggested they try the 577 T.Rex.

"Not on your life mate!" he said.
"Why not?" asked his wife.
"Because that bloody thing will break my shoulder, that is why!"

I said "You are a bloody wimp, I bet Mary will shoot it. Here, I will shoot one, and then she can try one too"

I fired one round, and then gave her one to shoot.

After she fired it, she said "it doesn't kick that much darlin!"

"Alright, I will shoot one from the same box. I won't let you cheat and give a different one"

He fired his round, and as the recoil pushed him back, he tumbled over the chair, and landed flat on his backside!

Now he refuses to shoot ANY rifle I give him

Bloody wimp!

Saeed,

I load a reduced load in my .470NE of 40grs of XMP 5477 and get right around 1400fps with a 500gr bullet. So I'm guessing that that 750gr bullet is somewhat slower than that. Maybe 1200 or so FPS?

Saeed, you sneaky so-and-so, you seem to be slipping.

Why'd you let the woman off easy?
