How good of an investment are the new limited edition of 1000 African hunting books by Safari Press and trophy Room Books, if they are purchased at retail ? What about purchased wholesale ? I have also noticed some of the limited edition books are still available and they are already available in a non limited edition printing, how will that effect the value of the limited edition printings ? Thanks

In my experience, books are not investments. Regardless of being called "limited editions" or whatever. THey can always be reprinted and reissued. Recall the Federal Duck Stamp program that was followed by all 50 states with state duck stamps. The issue prices were the highest ever realized as there was no real "value" to prints. Same with state duck stamps. Books are the same, unless you have 1st edition books that are considered of value due to rarity or the author is dead. My advice is to buy what you want to read but don't see it as an investment. You cannot get your purchase back after the book is issued and sold.

I think that dogcat gives good advice. I have been buying African hunting literature for 20 years and and have acquired a number of books that are quite valuable. I think that you should buy what you enjoy reading and collecting and leave the investing to stocks, bonds, etc. although it is possible to do okay on books provided you buy them right and can find buyers when the time comes to sell.
