I hope someone out there can help Me. I am tring to re-create a rifle that I used many years ago. It was an original Jeffery in 404. I have the about gun put togather now, and I am making the rear sights, but I am tring to remember exactly how the old sight looked and worked. It had express rear sights, but it also has a small ladder sight just in front of the forward leaf. I can't remember what ranges the little ladder was calibrated for. It was really a cool set up, but I think it probably wasn't all that practical. Be that as it may, I want to make my new rifle like that old one. So............is there anyone out there who has such a Jeffery rifle with a sight like I am describing? If so, could You please take a few close-up pics and send them to Me? I would be most thankful Thanks Steve

Ask and you shall receive. This is from a 333 Jeffery built in 1908. The ladder goes from 500 to 1000 yards (this rifle was sighted for the 300 grain bullet). I will add a photo of the cocking piece peep as well. If you need additional photos or measurements let me know. Now, all I ask in payment is one of the express sights (hey, you have to make one anyway ). I have a denuded Jeffery 375 that it would look great on . Jim

All those sights on one gun? crazy. REally, when shooting it, which rear sight do you find yourself using most often? It is cool though. I say a Marlin lever gun at the ACGG show that had lots and lots of rear sights too, even had express leaf type sights, which I never expected on a lever gun. Red

Quote: Tim, Sorry, but I do not know of a place to get these sights now. They were factory options on some of the British rifles, and often came with the express rear sights as well. I have seen several with a fixed standing blade and folding leaves like my Jeffery, but some had all folding leaves. It is not the best setup for accuracy without the express sight, as bolt rotation has to be perfectly repeatable to maintain a consistent sight picture and this is very hard to achieve (I have done tests without the express sight that proved this to my satisfaction at least). You can easily see this with the express sight in place, as the sight picture will change from shot to shot if you are not extremely careful in manipulation of the bolt. It does a great job of clearing up the sight picture if there is sufficient light (especially for older shooters that have trouble using open sights), and I believe that this was a major reason for this combination originally. It folds for use of the express sights only. Jim

All, While in England in late January I mentioned to my favorite gunsmith that a friend has a Rigby bolt action missing its cocking piece peep sight. He chuckled and said, "imagine that." He reached onto the table in front of him and showed me two such peep sights, one for a Rigby and the other for a Holland and Holland. Regret he did not have a Jeffery model. He's making me a Rigby model that I'll give to my friend. Anyone interested please send me a message with peep sight as the subject. Regards, Tim

Oh Treasure of treasures! Thank you guys for the pics. They are just what I was looking for. On the old Jeffery I used, I think it had only 2 folders, but I may be wrong. It was about 25 years ago. Also, I am sure it was not calibrated to 1000 yds, but it was still "way out there" On the first pic the folders lay toward the shooter, and on the other pic the folders lay away from the shooter. I am sure they went away from the shooter on that old rifle. Anyway, the ladders look just like the old Jeffery. In fact, when I saw these pics I remembered things more clearly. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. I am going to try my hand at making one up. If any one else has pics, please feel free to post them too. This is fun. Steve
