Congratulations, Russell! you've got some really nice trophies. What would you say the sable trophy size and abundance is where you hunted vs. other countries you've hunted?

Well done! Outstanding hunt!

This is exactly why I consider Mozambique to be one of the two best safari destinations in africa today. I hunted Coutada 11 with Mark and Glen Haldane in 2003 and 2005, taking two handgun world record animals, along with a Buff in the swamp, a very good Nyala and other species. They now operate Coutada 12 as well as 11. I recommended them to CB who has now hunted with them at least 3x along with his wife Donna.

Do yourself a favor and book a hunt with Zambezi Delta Safaris. You will not regret it.

Looks like some fine trophies. Especially the sable, the reedbok, and one or more of the buffalo on the last row -- can't really see them. That pig is something special! All very nice. Congratultions on a very nice safari.

my hunt a few years ago in Coutada 10 next door with Bahati Adventures was a really good look at "old Africa". Moz truly is a magical place that every hunter should try to visit. congratulations on as fine a 10 day bag as you are likely to ever have. those swamps and the Suni "jungle" are something else!!!

TX,
These sable are classified as Common, even though there has been some discussion about that designation. Trophy size in this area is 37" to 40". Anything 40" or over in Coutada 11 or 12 is a definite keeper! While size isn't what you might find in Zimbabwe or Zambia you will see large numbers of sable. I saw sable every day! From single bulls to herds as large as one hundred + animals. Seriously, I am not exaggerating here... we literally saw multiple herds in pans that had fifty to a hundred head! I shot my bull out of a herd of around thirty-five animals. Jay shot his bull out of a herd on the floodplains that they estimated had 125 animals.

Mark Haldane has done a super job of bringing this area of Moz back from the brink. When he took it over 22 years ago, they had less than 500 sable in his entire area. You will now see 500 sable in three or four days! A real success story!

This is definitely an area to consider if sable is on your short list. If you can shoot, you can almost be assured a bull!

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!
