I'm not sure who Tony Makris is, so I can't comment on him as host.

No one here has mentioned Gerald McRaney. He hosts (or at least used to host) "World of Beretta" with Chris Dorsey. I really enjoy Gerald as host. He is very humble and respectful of nature and the people he hunts with. I have personally met him and he is a very nice guy. He reminds me a little bit of Curt Gowdy from the "American Sportsman" show of yesteryear, and that's a compliment.

Justin, I agree with you 100% about Chris Dorsey. I've never met him, but he comes across as a completely pompous ass, and there are other posters here who say that he is indeed like this in person as well. I normally don't like to talk negatively about anyone, but in the case of Dorsey, I just can't hold myself back. He is a truly horrible host and really rubs me the wrong way. On the show he comes across as arrogant and boring, never having an interesting thing to say. I watched an episode where he shot a bull elephant, his first I think, and all he could say after the kill was, "Wow, that's a big critter." And he kept repeating this. Here was a guy who shot an animal which to most of us would represent the very pinnacle of our hunting achievements, and all he could manage to say was something stupid like this. You'd think it would have meant more to him than that, and that as host of a TV show, he would be able to verbalize it. Nope. What a moron.

This is funny as my son who owns a small business (really small 2 employees and himself) was out for 4 days compliments of a 6mm kidney stone and some smaller friends. The guy he left in charge told him when he got back on Friday "Christ I don't know how you do it, when I went home after work I was just dead tired and only wanted to go to bed." This from a working guy to his non working boss!

By the by Tony is a good guy and can tell a story. I only wish I had never made a bad shot. I wear biker gloves too on safari.

I don't count 'political elites' in government or nonprofits 'working class guys'. Glad you like Markis --- like I said, he rubs me the wrong way.

buffybr: You're right about the skin issues with Tony, and that is why he dresses as he does. He has had some skin cancer issues because he cooked himself up good in his younger years, just like some of the rest of us. Big Grin

UEG - It's interesting that people rag on the way someone else dresses without knowing there might just be a legitimate reason for them doing so?? And it just might be that they enjoy the way they dress? Might be a clue there somewhere?

Yes, it's legitimate with Tony, and skin cancer is nothing to play with. And once you've had it, you are much more susceptible to return bouts. And then you worry that the next one might be a fatal melanoma.

Another that solicits strong emotional reactions is Tred Barta.

I am not a fan, but I know some who are.

To me he seems a bit arrogant.

I also like Gary Bogner, talked with him several times in Reno and came across as very down to earth.
