ZAWA shoot dead stray leopard
By Pride Bwalya

ZAMBIA Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) yesterday shot dead a leopard at Monze Mission Hospital.
The leopard, which was suspected to have come from one of the nearest national parks was shot while it was in a Mango tree where it was hiding near the poultry house within the hospital premises.
Father Sebastian Milimo and Father Kenan Chibawe from the mission hospital reported the presence of the animal after it was spotted by one of the workers.
ZAWA officer, Kuwabo Limba, said in an interview that the leopard was about 30 metres high up in the tree and was shot at once.
After it was shot, it fell into the chicken run which was under the tree.
Mr Limba said it was not yet established where the animal came from because there were no leopards in the nearby Lochnivar National park.
He said that leopards usually follow chickens and he suspected it was attracted by the chickens in the hospital premises.
The carcass was then taken to ZAWA offices where officers where found trying to skin it so that the skin could be sent to the head office in Chilanga, Lusaka.
And Monze Mission Hospital director,Yotam Mvula, also confirmed that a leopard was found in a Mango tree near the sisters Convent within the hospital premises.
Dr Mvula said that the presence of the wild animal was reported to ZAWA, which responded immediately.
Dr Mvula said that the leopard did not attack any human being or animal around but it was suspected to have come the previous night into the hospital premises.
He called on the hospital management and communities around to remain alert as there could be some more suspected wild animals not only within the hospital premises but also surrounding areas

The good fathers ought to know better -- the leopard was spotted by God.
