I'm looking for outfitter/ph recommendations for a leopard and buffalo hunt in the Luangwa Valley.   I'm also interested in croc and hippo.

I'd like to do this hunt in 2022 or 2023.

Thanks!!

Alister Norton, Makasa Safari’s.

I believe Alister is 100% on Leopards. I know he was. I have killed two Leopards and one Lion with Alister. A TOTAL of 7 sittings for all three cats.

Johnny Du Plooy, talk to Mark Young about him. I hunted with him in 2020 and 2021.

I know there are a number of very good operators/PH's operating in the Luangwa, but if I was able to book a safari there the first guy I would contact would be Andrew (fairgame) at Royal Kafue Ltd. Lots of AR members have hunted with him.

Add Richard Bell-Cross to the list.

THOR KIRCHNER! Thor Wildlife Safaris. Located at Munyamadzi Game reserve, right on the Luangwa River.
Been there and done that! The camp is second to NONE! Thor, the PH a consummate professional. What an experience. You simply do not know what you are missing if you do not do your homework here. EVERY DAY you WILL see. Elephant, Lion, Leopard (on 4 occasions in the daylight!), Hippo, Buffalo, Croc. Everything but Rhino. 100% recommendation from my wife no less!!!!! If there was such a thing as ‘old Africa’ this is it. Get on line and look it up. Or, get on WhatsApp and call up Thor himself.

I don’t believe Richard Bell Cross or Andrew hunt the Luangwa valley. Richard was in Lunga/Luwishi. I’m sure I spelled that wrong. And Andrew in the Kafue area (still?)

Both have concessions, across the Kafue River from each other, on the Kafue Plateau. They’re a very long way from the Luangwa Valley. I’ve hunted with Richard on Lunga Luswishi; he’s excellent but his area has no buffalo. Great area for cats, big sable and Sitatunga.

I was responding to both Skyline and Lane who recommend them both.

I do a bit of hunting in the Luangwa and more so this year. I have just booked a similar hunt and the prices were extremely varied so it pays to shop around. In addition, one has to consider the quality of the camp, food, and accommodation. The Luangwa has a great population of Leopard, especially the remoter blocks. Then charters are necessary which adds to the cost. All PH's mentioned are first-class and fun to be with.

Yeah, wasn’t thinking squarely at the moment.

Another tu2 for Johnny DuPlooy. I hunted there this past September and saw four leopards in day light hours and the crocs and hippo were everywhere . Buffalo were numerous also. I took buffalo hyena and zebra. You can PM me if you have questions.

I hunted with Andrew in the Luangwa Valley two months ago. I saw (2) Leopards in broad daylight while I was there. Too bad I wasn’t hunting Leopard!

Have taken two leopards with Alister Norton and will go again this year Covid willing.

Also have taken a couple buffalo, hippo, roan and the rest. First class operation that I can't recommend highly enough.

Muchinga Adventurees with Johnny DuPlooy. Hunted with them last July. Unbelievably good hunting. Croc, Hippo, Buffalo, Roan, Leopard, Zebra, Wildebeest etc.,etc. Fantastic, hardworking crew.
I need to post a proper hunt report at some point.

I have also hunted with Johnny DuPlooy of Muchinga Adventures twice and give him and his areas high marks. Booked both hunts through Mark Young who posts here on AR.

Werner approach’s a down Sable, he get close to poking it. It gets up and starts chasing him. It’s been a long while so I don’t remember the outcome other that it never hit him
Cool

I took my brother to hunt with Fairgame. It was one of the finest experiences in 16 trips over.

Top Notch

I went with Andrew on a buffalo and sable hunt with my wife a few years ago. It was a beautiful area, an amazing hunting adventure, and my wife totally loved the entire experience. You will be in good hands with Andrew Baldry & Royal Kafue.

Thanks Bwana,

The trick is to find a good PH and let him find the hunting grounds. All PH's mentioned are first class as well as Thor Kirchner, Peter Chipman, Lance Higgins, Valerio Ventriglia, Fico Vidale, Richard Bell Cross to name a few. Visiting PH's such as the Stone Brothers hunt some of the finest concessions with excellent results.

At the end of the day, you need to explore the best possible opportunity within your budget and an open line of communication with your PH.
