After talking to outfitters during last years SCI and viewing recent posts it seems that lions are out of reach for most of us these days. I personally can do without a 100 k lion hunt if there are reasonable elephant and buffalo to hunt.

Why would a lion cost you 100K? You can go on a nice lion/buff hunt in ZIm for 30K all inclusive.

It is sad that hunting is such an expensive sport. I'd love to hunt lion(s), I just hope that when I can it's still legal. ____________________________ If you died tomorrow, what would you have done today ... 2018 Zimbabwe - Tuskless w/ Nengasha Safaris 2011 Mozambique - Buffalo w/ Mashambanzou Safaris

Its a matter of supply and demand. My point is no single animal is worth that much money. I know they can be had for less but the going price in Botswana,Zambia, and tanzania is approaching astronomical. Zimbabwe is the exception at this time, but sucess seems to be very low.

Gunny, I agree that lions are very expensive but as 500 grain said you can do a lion in Zim for about $30,000 if you can live with a lion and bait only hunt on a 15 day schedule. Barrie Duckworth actually has had 100% shooting opportunity on mature lion in Chewore for the last 4 years. Mark MARK H. Gunny: My one and only hunt in Africa was in 1993 for buff. It happened that my outfitter (himself a very experienced PH) flew into camp.He was what was called in those days a "lion man" by the Ministry of Parks and Game (Zimbabwe) He told me stories about lions (none of them having anything to do with him facing lions -like most guys who never talk about combat) He said something that shocked me. He predicted that lions would not be here in Africa to hunt within the next twenty years. As I said, that was 1993 when I heard him. A

I was told by jack atcheson jr in 1997 that lions were becoming the hardest to obtain trophy in africa. I was fortunate enough to find one that year and now I realize how lucky I really was.

Those whom can afford 50K and up for a DG hunt really don't quibble over 10K here or there. Keeping the inflate/unrealistic value of lions steep. It would seem they also relish the idea that only a few can afford them...thus keeping the masses at bay. The safari company has little problem catering to the few as the profit balances out in the end. I liken it to a man whom drives a Hummer vs one operating a Jeep.
