I'm taking two rifles this fall to RSA for my elephant hunt, 404 J primary, 458 Win Mag as backup in case Mr Murphy breaks the 404, etc.

I've worked up some Northfork 450 gr loads for their SS and FPS bullets with AA2230 that are in 2,185 fps range each.

I assume this is more than enough? SS would be for any buffalo or plainsgame.

Or should I back them down to 2,150 fps or so?

Austin

I did some load data last fall/winter in 458 Winchester with CEB and North Fork bullets, complete with pressures.....

Click on the link below, bottom of the page you will find a pdf document, and you are welcome to it.....

Your 2185 fps is plenty, and well under max pressures.......

Yep - I looked at your data. Aligns almost exactly with the grains vs fps that I'm getting.

I could always go higher, but my bone spurs in my neck don't like the bench work at the range; even with a recoil sled and 25 lbs of lead shot on it!

I expect your rifles and loads will give you exactly the
performance that you are hoping for. Have a great trip!!!

I think you will be in dandy shape with these loads...... You will get plenty of performance and all you need with what you have now........ You have made an excellent choice in bullets..........
