levinf for S Africa next week and wondering how to pronounce Qater. I've heard it pronounced both ways- like "cutter", with the accent on the first syllable, and, spelled phonetically, "ka tar" with the accent on the last. Which is correct? Hate to offend, altho at my age I can probably get away with anything. jmbn Old and in the way

I don't know which is proper, but I do know that no one understands you when you pronounce it "cutter". They only understand you when you pronounce it "kaTAR". Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

Problem is most people cannot pronounce the first letter. It is is strong K but comes out of the top back of the mouth! KKATAR is the way.

Not cutter. Accent on the first syllable. Regards, Chuck "There's a saying in prize fighting, everyone's got a plan until they get hit" Michael Douglas "The Ghost And The Darkness"
