While talking with and looking over information from several individuals from PH's to booking agents I have found a wide descrepencey in government imposed fees in Mozambique. Ranging from $1000.00 for a buffallo to $50.00 for a baboon. Someone else tells me the government fee is $50.00 per animal regardless of the spiecie. Can anyone shed light on this subject?

Thanks,

H Kittle

Official license fees are published in the government gazette. However some areas such as Niassa hunting blocks have to pay a premium to the administration. the same applies to the moz version of campfire where a fixed amount per animal should go to the local communities at least in theory . the operators normally add this cost to the license fees. For other areas the published fees are valid a small variation in quoted prices occur by estimating the $ to MZM exchange rate fluctuating $ is a problem some will also include cost for getting the license in Maputo and getting up to the hunting area,
All animals have individual license fees.

You can PM me and will give you the license fees for particular animals

Good hunting

There was some discussion a bit ago about an operator who was overcharging these fees, but in general the licenses in mozm are required before you go hunting. thus it's not like the rest of africa where if you see it and want to shoot it all you have is the trophy fee. you have to have the license 1st. It's not the cheapest thing in the world either, commonly it appears to be about 25% or so of the trophy fee, so it can add up quickly. From what i understand there's lots of politics involved in the hunting busniness there. Other extra costs are things like air charter. The daily fees are a bit higher than are the ones in zim for instance, but the trophy fees are about the same. there are some weird things there, such as Jumbo moore has about the only hyena permit in mozm. something about dead relatives. Ele and croc are not importable into the u.s.

16 Hyena are on quota for 2006 and that Jumbo got the only one is incorrect.

You are the only one so far to actually state there are different types and pricing on trophy fees in Mozambique. Our guy in Mozambique offers comparable daily fees and trophy fees to his operation in Zimbabwe and the license fees are incorporated in the trophy fees. This is much different from pricing being quoted for other areas.

How the license fees get charged is up to the individual operator you can include in the trophy or charge it separately. However as stated above the official government fees there are in some areas extra charges if you send me a pm for which area I can send you the information by pm or e-mail. We also do not have government stipulated minimum hunting dates for species is up to the outfitter to set them. There is also no different price structure for female or bait animals by the government and all will be counted against the one quota allocated to the area.
Keep in mind there is no legal PAC hunting in Mozambique by clients.

Cheers

H Kittle,
Was there a special reason you want to go there?. Hunting in Zim is still very safe, less expensive than other areas. You could try John Sharp for Buffalo or any other type hunts. John is also licensed for Mozambique.
