Hi Peter,

The tusks you mention are coming up ofr auction on the 7th Sep this year at Holts. I will be away atthe time but anyone can ring Holts and get a ticket for a viewing in the days prior to the auction. I think it is Mon/Tue for viewing and Thursday for the Sale.

I saw the tusks mounted at the viewing for the last sale as they were in the entryway and they are truly awesome in size. I'm 6ft and can stand and walk through their "arch" when they are tip to tip easily.

If anyone is going to see them then I would also reccomend that they take the time to go see the Kilamanjaro Elephant at the natural history museum, although they will not be able to get as close and touch the museum peice.

Regards,
FB

Back in the early 80's the Kilamonjaro Tusks were in a controlled climate area 3 floors down from the main floor. One saturday a very bored guard took me down to see them. I DID run my hand the entire length of that magnificent ivory.
