In RSA I also took a nyala while hunting with Rory Turbitt, Zulu-Nyala Safaris. Saw 8-10 shootable nyala in three days of hunting. At dusk I shot this nyala and hit him about 10 inches too far back (i.e, a gutshot). The "plunk" when the bullet hit did not sound good. There were three nyala bulls in the bunch and we spread out looking for blood. A tracker quickly waved me over and said "over here, over here!" He pointed out a nyala obscured in the bush 100 yards away and said "that's him!" So I went ahead and whacked it. The PH ran up and with considerable concern questioned the tracker if he was sure. As we followed up the blood I broke out a Surefire Aviator flashlight and that help in the track. 150 yards later we found the nyala piled up. To the relief of the PH it indeed had two holes in it. First shot was indeed too far back, second shot took out the lungs. I was using a 9.3x62 with 286 grain Nosler Partition. Per the PH he went 28". Next part of the trip was with Sandy MacDonald (MacDonald Pro-Hunting) up near Pietersburg. I wanted a decent bushbuck and was assigned PH Andre Koornhof. I was taken to an avacado plantation with a plenty of bushbuck. We happened upon an old bushbuck and using the same 9.3x62 I dropped this one at about 125 yards. It was quartering away and the 286 N.P. went completely through it. It measured 16 1/2 inches.

Most excellent Matt! That is one hell of a reedbuck! Good Nyala and bushbuck as well. Glad to see you got the picture thing worked out. Sounds like you all had a good trip. You need to let everyone know once again what a great thing SCI Detroit and especially Pieter Stoffberg of Nimrod safaris does for our disabled veterans. This is something done from the heart and not out of financial benefit by the outfitter. This part of the trip was Matt's own thing but the second part was the disabled veteran hunt. How about some stories on the Namibia part of the hunt?

Nice trophies! I suppose the nyala was quite sick after getting a 9.3 to the gut, did the tracker see this from the bodylanguage, or was it a bit of luck?

Matt, You really did have an amazing run of luck on your trophy quality. Good show! This year in RSA one of the animals I wanted the most was a Limpopo bushbuck but the bushbuck I saw were all short horned or broken horned. You did very well indeed sir! Regards, Mark
