Timot,

Here's an email that Ade's wife, Sally sent out yesterday:

"I have put off as long as poss to see what is going down. Ade and the boys will leave on Sat but without me. We are so close to waking up that I must be here. I am staying and reviewing the situation daily - there is no plan.

I was hoping to tell you something brilliant - but not, I am afraid.

He is only on 0.5ml sedation and adrenalin - which is given to him so as to increase and try to control the blood pressure and keep it high. The idea is that a dose of adrenaline = high blood pressure + oxygen makes for good repair work and healing in brain injury.

2 days ago they stopped everything, all sedation and drugs, sadly too he deflated and everything slowly but surely decreased until they decided to kick start again with the adrenaline.

This shows us that he is not ready yet, and that his hypothalamus is still not functioning. It is better, but not working enough for him to come off the respirator. The good news is that he can breathe on his own and move his arms and toes very slowly because of the sedation. So when it is time, progress should be good. Until then the respirator is there to help him, and the sedative to stop him pulling drains out. Now the problem is still that there is risk of infection, pnuemonia, and bed sores.

The adrenalin has also forced him to stop absorbing food so he is fed intravenously. When I think of what he used to eat!

Anyway I will write again as I am sure something new will develop - there is always something little breaking into the routine of the day and all of it is a surprise - and they call Keegan an adrenaline junkie. One day I will be bored and back into a routine..one day! After 24 days what is normal?"
