Hi
I've asked several questions about the rifle I'm planning form my first African hunt, which will be a tuskless cow hunt, I really apreciate all the help I've recived from the AR members.

I'm going with a CZ 550 416 rigby actin, Pacnor barrel chambered in 460 wby or 500 a-square. I'm going with a deicated ghost ring sight.
Now I need some help with the stock. The choice is betwen Brockman's CZ 550 Magnum Express Stock and McMillian's CZ express or CZ AHR.
The choice between glass or lamanated is the big decision. Any input will is apreciated.
Thanks
Dr B

Brockman's stock has a much better shape for a relatively hard-kicking rifle shot from the offhand position. McMillan never outgrew the benchrest.

Some of it may have to do with what fits you well. I know that my McMillan stock on my 416 Rigby helps me handle the recoil very well. I don't get the impression there is much "bench rest" about it at all.

Whichever you pick for those calibers you'll want something that either has a straight comb or reverses it so that the stock recoils away from your face.

To my way of thinking there is nothing wrong with the American "classic" style of stock for DGR. It is way much better than the old H&H express type styling which is better suited to open sights. There was too much drop at heel.

Ask JJHACK for a pic of his John Ricks built 458 Lott. The rifle is a total pussy cat. It has a ghost ring sight too. Canuck will back this up - he must weigh 140lb soaking wet and he shot it very comfortably. JJ is even smaller in stature. Anyway that is the style to go for.

Cheers

pete

If Chuck Norris dives into a swimming pool, he does not get wet. The swimming pool gets Chuck Norris.

American Hunting Rifles have several good stock (3) configurations for big bore rifles --.416 and up to 600. I have several and these really work well.

So, what is the general opinion on the 'new' American straight stock that comes with the CZ?
The laminates CZ now sells BTW, have the same dimensions, I got confirmed by CZ-USA.

I wish I could handle one, they seem much straighter, with a higher comb, than the straight stock that came with my (CDN) CZ (which is the old version).

Here is a pic of my CZ550 416Rigby with a Brockman stock. I really like this stock and the recoil is very manageable. Had no trouble taking a nice Elephant, in fact the tusks in the background.

Pete, hey, uhhh....you weren't hittin the sauce already that morning, eh? Big Grin I appreciate the sentiment, but I haven't weighed 140 lbs since grade school. I am sad to say that the scale hasn't read below 230 since about 2003.

Otherwise, though, you were spot on! Jim's 458 Lott is a pleasure to shoot.

ps: I had some of your favorite Montreal Steak Spice on Saturday night. Mmmm. How's your supply?..need a care package?

Cheers,
Canuck

McMillan. Frankly speaking, the Brockman stock is rough, ugly, and IMO a bit blocky.
