Steve, Good to hear you are settling in. Lots of citrus huh? Just think how friggin many lime trees you can have. Big Grin I will have to look up Mahseer as it seems to be one of the things I have forgotten. Twenty five kilos on a fly rod gets my attention though. Keep us posted. It must be strange to not have to be continually on high alert. Although sad that you left Africa I think it was a wise move. Besides, who can argue with spending quality time with your grand-daughter? My niece (our god-daughter) is staying here until her husband gets home from Iraq in a couple of weeks. She gave birth to their son six months ago while here. What a joy to have a little one around again. I will really miss that little guy when they leave for the next duty station. Spend as much time as you can with them. It is the greatest pleasure in life I believe, even better than raising your own. The relationship is different from raising your own children. No pressures, no worries, and I think we have all greatly mellowed with age. That, and gained the wisdom to enjoy it. Good luck my friend

Mike,

I completely agree with everything you say there! tu2

Kiri

We've seen some really nice waters but the best so far has to be the Zezere...... it's a dammed river and looks simply unbelievably good! fishing

Was there a loud voice over Africa that said "LAdies and Gentlemen, Shakari has left the Continent..." to the screams of ladies from the CApe to the Nile???

BEst of luck with the new digs, I'm sure you'll enjoy the slightly different pace of life.

Cheers...

He might battle with the cat house........ the nearest one is probably several hours away...... guess I might have to work on that dog box instead! rotflmo

The good news is we have trout in the river at the bottom of the garden, wild boar eating the fallen figs right behind the house and deer all over the place. tu2

Haven't found anywhere to buy yet though but the best is yet to come on that front!

Even the cottage we're renting has a trout stream but getting to it is another matter..... it looks like no-one has cleared the undergrowth in about a century.

So far, I've been defeated by the blackberry bushes but if the wild boad can get there, and I know they can, then it's only a matter of time before I manage to find a way through!

Steve:

What are the firearms laws like there. I did a little on-line research and they seam a bit restrictive (from a US point of view).

Heading to Mr. Goss's "school house" on Tues. Taken a copy of your book with for one of my references.

Thanks again and good luck in the land of the black footed ham!!

I haven't made an application yet but from what I can gather they're easier than the UK & RSA but not as easy as the US so more or less what one would expect...... I'm not in a rush to get that organised though...... when I do get it done though, I'd like to buy myself a little underlever rifle for the wild boar & deer etc....... haven't looked into that much though as we're so busy looking for a house still.

Good luck at Ian's...... I'm 110% sure you'll have an absolute ball! tu2

Yup, they are nice but I need to watch my budget (carefully) for a while because of the house purchase etc..... I suspect getting a rifle from the US into europe might also be expensive and full of hassles....
