Has anyone hunted this area in Northern Mozambique, west of Niassa? My '18 plans for a Buffalo and Sable hunt in Niassa L7 aren't going to work out. I understand that Howard Hunter manages the area currently and that it is really not a great choice for Buffalo but have not been able to find any info from someone who might have been there.

Did L7 close? Hunters and Guides Africa had a group of clients there in 2015 I believe.

Planning on trying a hunt in the hot October sun this year with Dave Langerman in either L7 or up in Lipilichi. Dave has great success on buffalo and big Eland at that time of the year and has been pushing me to give the October a try. Have hunted Niassa in September and every day could see more game moving into the areas. While I am more familiar with L7, Both Lipilichi and L7 have strong conservation efforts including anti-poaching. This is due to people like Howard and Derek that are doing what they can for their areas. Hunting dollars are used to help fund the anti-poaching and conservation programs. Lipilichi is a little more difficult to get to but they make up for that with some great deals and the camps are set up very nicely. L7 is rumored to be entertaining the idea of focusing more on eco-tourism than hunting since the turn around in the economy has not affected (increased) their bookings. Either area is one to support if not just for the deals, to keep hunting as viable income for these areas or just because of the wilderness and the game. Charter costs into L7 are not bad but Lipilichi can be accessed by charter that if split between a group or back to back hunters would make that a great bang for the buck. Both areas have rifles in camp in case someone wanted to avoid the hassle. If you ever thought about heading to Niassa for a hunt this might be a good time to think about going. Dave has some hunts set up already but he has some openings and there are some other fine PH’s that are also available in both those areas. You can PM me if you like or email Dave directly. davelangerman@gmail.com
