Walgreens has the bowflex machines on sale for $599. including shipping so I bought one and got it put together yesterday and that in itself was a workout!

At 70 and after that last operation, I realize that its time to start a lifetime or staying in shape, it now takes to long to get "back" in shape like I have been doing so long, so the bowflex and exercise bike should keep me lean and mean for another 20 or so years of hunting I'm thinking..

Also this office stuff keeps me busy as hell and ties me down, and so does the Idaho winters, so I think I now have a handle on this thing and I can add some walking to that routine...

Hope this plan comes together, I got a wake up call on my last operation, I didn't bounce back like I figured on doing, the doc said that I'm getting a little older and it just takes longer to recoup at my age...Thats a little disconserting and that just ain't gonna happen on this end, I'm going out with a fight, lifes just to good, and there are way too many Buffalo to be shot.

I got two months to get in fighting trim and Saeed and I will be bushing out the dagga boys. I am getting anxious.

Ray, good for you! Carefull though, its easy to slack. If you are an organized fellow, keep a spread sheet as to what you are doing each day.

Ray,
The bicycle and Bowflex are an ideal combination of machines for getting into and staying in shape! Never increase your workout time by more than 10% per week. It will seem like your progress is too slow, but that will prevent injury and give you a solid base of fitness. Be sure and set the bicycle seat as high as is comfortable. That will help strengthen your knees.
I have a hot spring swimming pool near my home that I swim at all winter. That really helps the arthritis and improves flexibility. Funny thing - if you break bones near joints in your knuckle-headed youth you get reminded twenty years later when they allow you to predict the weather..

Ray,
Walk, bike, swim, bowflex, and stop chasing fast women. Good plan. Glad to hear you are wising up finally at seventy. But you have done very well to get where you are so far. You better hang around at least another 20 years to keep things colorful.

Cheers!

Great idea Ray. As you well know being consistant is the key to success here. If you feel lazy any particular day just look at Walter and that should be enough to get you going again. Just kidding Walter. Seriously I think that is a great plan and it will make your up comming trip a better one.

Ray- My wife is a physical therapist. If you are religous about your training, amazing things can happen. You should try and research some simple stretches. They are a huge help and don't take any time. You have a good combo of machines.

Hi Ray,

You have discovered the secret to staying in shape. Don't forget the free weights too, use them for both a cardio or strength workout. After a few months of this, you may even sell the .404 to move up to a .500 I know from experience as I'm almost your age and battle to hang on to my youth.

By the way, are you planning on scheduling a buffalo hunt in Nebraska again?

Well I suppose its like the old saying.
"if I'd known I was gonna live this long I'd taken better care of myself"!
My dad is 83 and my grandfather went to 94. I guess I better start looking after myself if I have That to look
forward to.
Good for you Ray.

Good for you, Ray. A few years ago I used to wear out a machine every couple of years. While it didn't stop the progress of what I have, it has helped me. You take care!

Wow good for you and keep up the good work. I guess I'll have to stop feeling sorry for myself now in my late 50s. My dad was still pushing the snowblower at 90 so hey--gotta keep the blood flowing.....

All my ancestors seem to get into their 80's and 90's and only my dad succomed to Alzheimer's so staying in shape has to be part of life . . . which is a shame 'cause wine, women and song are so much more appealing than blood, toil, tears and sweat! I've finally gotten my Achilles tendon back in condition so it's back to high-speed dog walks with a dumbbell in each hand. When I get up to an hour (4 miles) and 3 lbs I'll feel better about myself. At least I have warm winters down here.

So what is the real story here, Atkinson?

Is this a thinly veiled attempt at getting Birthday wishes? Is your birthday today?

Or does everyone within a couple hundred miles refuse to come near you?

I'd say if you are still chasing buff, no matter how slowly, you're doing okay.

Ray,
Rip is wrong about chasing fat women. If you can't find your way, just throw white flour on her, show her a picture of Brad Pitt and look for the damp spot. Just don't fall off; broken hips are no fun!

Ray,

ensure you start drinking heaps of vegetable Juice and Green Tea, my dear old Dad has got the cancer and he is on the green tea and veggie Jucie and he feels it is helping, I have also started drinking it and I reckon I feel better for it and I am only 28....they say it has heaps of preventitive stuff in it.

I hope I am as fit as you when I am your age.

Good for you, Old Guy!! I've been fighting off the older middle age years for a while now and found that working 6 days a week helps keep my wind up. When you're working the loading docks and delivering the stuff and doing it in a timely fashion, it seems to work out just fine. All it takes now is the proper diet with lots of Extra Virgin Olive Oil and good booze and not that cheap stuff and you'll live forever.

Hey Ray, I guess you need a lighter rifle now, and I just happen to have a Remington Mod 700 7mm Rem Mag that is more suited to old folks than that big heavy B. Searcy 470NE, so I'll do you a favor, and trade you streight accross! Now that's what I call a friend. In fact, I'll even go along with you to back you up with the Searcy when you shoot a couple Cape Buffalo, with the 7mm!
