I have my name on a Leopard tag in Namibia this year. I wonder how many Leopards that will be taken in Namibia 07? Are there any statistics over big5 in Namibia, and maybe for the other big5 countries? Odin

In Tanzania, over recent years an average of: 200 lions 350 leopards 40 elephants 2000 buff and 0 rhino are shot by tourist hunters every season "...Them, they were Giants!" J.A. Odin I was told by operator in Namibia that the overall success rate was about fifty percent for the country ( I think that may be a little kind to the industry). The CITES quota for Namibia is 250 so if the operator is right (I don't know one way or the other) Then it would suggest 125 Leopards will be killed in 07. By comparison most places in Zimbabwe say 80% or above and the CITES quota is 500 permits a year. Interestingly Ethiopia also has 500 on quota, unfortunately they're not exportable to the US, I have know idea about the Artic circle though.

Odin, Namibia has a quota of 250 leopard per year, of which 243 where shot last year. I do not know how many where harvested in 2005/6, but in 2004 ythere where 111 shot. (as export trophies) There are plenty more shot each year by farmers to control stock losses. Who will you be hunting with?
