I was reading Dogcat's thread on Bill Quimby's book on SCI, and it seems SCI's membership is flat and its management and political issues are unresolved.
I'm totally uninterested in trophy competition, but extremely interested in conservation -- particularly in Africa -- and hunting rights here and abroad.
So which organization is the most effective and efficient at working toward these goals, SCI or DSC?
Just looking for the freshest take possible. I have let my memberships in both organizations lapse.

I'm very happy with with the DSC. Nothing against SCI, but the DSC feels like it's moving in the right direction.

Bill,

I'm with Mike. Rather than pitting one organization against another let's just support them all as they all support us.

Agree with Mike. Two best hunting and conservation rights groups and best guns rights group.

Mike is right, join both of them...and if you'll join DSC, we will send you a one year membership in NRA for free.

I've been an NRA member for years -- as well as the Oregon Hunters Association.

well...glad to hear that, I think right now, more than ever we need the NRA to be strong. If you join DSC we'll still send you a one year membership in NRA that you can give to someone else...

All three is certainly a great idea to consider. NRA and SCI have lawyers and lobbyists fighting in Washington and in the Courts, and coordinating their efforts on many fronts. Not sure about DSC in that regard. Another worthy organization is Conservation Force (John Jackson). Convention prices and ease of attendance are the very last reasons for me in joining any of them, and I am a Benafactor member of the NRA and a Life Member of SCI. In that regard, I have never been to an NRA convention, but I have ploughed my money into the NRA because they are effective. Without strong efforts in Washington and in the Courts we will lose the battle. I say support those organizations that are actually fighting for you.

I do think that belonging to the following organizations is important.

NRA - SCI & DSC

Other organisations that help on the home front that i belong too:
RMEF
DU
NAHC
NAFC

Since i have retired i have reduced the number of organisations that i have belonged to.

Bill:

I didn't mean to make SCI's problems seem insurmountable. To answer your question, join SCI, DSC, the NRA and the Conservation Force and support each to the extent you can. If there are things one of these groups does that bothers you, ignore it. The good each does far exceeds their real and perceived warts. Hunting and hunters have never been more threatened in the half century I have been closely following and reporting on the anti-hunting movement.

Don't particularly care for either DSC or SCI both were silent to the closure of hunting in Botswana kinda a Clinton or Trump decision neither will make America great again neither care but for themselves . I donated a elephant hunt to both for more years than I can remember the minute you stop donating blood they turn their backs on you much like the politicians will do , you are only as good as what they can get from you today. With all their supposed financial and supposed political influence in the big picture they achieve zilch.
30 years later I have learnt your money is better used with Conservation Force , The Hunting Report , Ron Thompson , NRA and country based hunting organizations.
In the same way Kenya can come up with a million excuses why wildlife has declined , the fact remains they closed hunting and the rest is history , why is hunting becoming politically incorrect , why is hunting opportunities diminishing , why is hunting in Africa closing , ???? Maybe those entrusted to run with the ball have not , maybe they have failed hunting , just maybe money fame old boys clubs were more important than fighting the fight. Both SCI and DSC talk the talk but lets face it both have failed hunting in a big way , hence we are where we are globally .
