I just finished reading David's book, The Shangaan Song. I downloaded it from Itunes, very convenient.

I was tranported to Zimbabwe even if just for a brief moment, I fished with David, I laughed with David and I cried with David.

I highly recommend this read, I see my country differently as a result of David's words.

Thanks David.

Steve, thank you so much for posting this thread. A few years ago, before David was famous... he asked me to review his book as he thought my opinion of his work would mean something.
Having published a few magazine articles and produced a few TV documentaries I guess I sounded like a person who knew something about nothing.

Well your comment above just summed up exactly my reaction to the book. The writing style is so easy to read and gives one a sense of place within the story.
You know when you realize that although there is a physical void between you and a person you have never met, through his writing David sat across the fire from me and told his story.

Many years before whilst reading the power of one, I felt a shift within me allowing me a greater understanding and a new perspective. Davids writing again shifted that perspective and broadened my horizon.
Thank you David and please keep writing, your country and Africa's many people need to wear the goggles you provide, if only for a day, to better understand our African reality.

More endorsements for the book. I highly recommend it. For those with short attention spans like me, the little vignettes are very enjoyable.

Cheers Mike, cheers Judge beer

Will, thank you for finally acknowledging the existence of my book, I now feel I have really arrived on AR! This will hopefully give you a better idea what it's about.

The timespan covered by this story is all in the eye of the beholder, as is the direction taken by a traveler. It could cover a period of seventeen years through the eyes of an inexperienced mfana (boy), or it could cover a century of history through the eyes of an ancient and wise mdala (old man), it all depends on which way you look at it…

The Shangaan Song is a ragged assortment of stories from the bush, as non-conforming and unpredictable as the land in which it is set. Adventure, comedy, tragedy and paradox, this book is a stimulating and evocative read for anyone who knows rural Africa, or for anyone who wishes to know it.

A few comments:

‘The best thing I’ve read in a long time. A must read for anyone who has been to southern Africa, anyone who might go, or anyone who loves a good story ... ’
Craig Boddington
Executive Field Editor, Intermedia Outdoors

‘His love for his country and fellow man comes shining through’
Dr Colin Saunders
Author of Gonarezhou - A Place for Elephants

‘Well-drawn and convincing .... skillfully captured.’
African Hunter Magazine

Maybe you'd like a copy Will, only $19.99 for a paperback? Unfortunately postnotpaid Wink but I will let you make use of my special author discount coupon!

No boiling of fat guys I'm afraid, but there are a couple of leopard stories, an elephant hunt story and a maneating crocodile story!

Anyway, thank you all for the support as always, David

I think it is available in all formats, here is a link to the ebook. I still can't quite figure out what Kindle is, but just click on this link, find my author page and there's a couple of download options.

Cheers, David

I just downloaded The Shangaan Song to my Ipad through Itunes. Since the rains in the NW USA have just started there are no ducks yet so now I can read about Africa with a fire in the wood stove and the Labrador retriever laying bored at my feet.

Many thanks for the support guys, I hope you all enjoy the read.

Cecil you can buy a paperback or hardcover by clicking one of the lulu links on my profile. Alternatively, as will says, write me at hulmour@yahoo.com and I can arrange a signed hardcover copy to be sent to you, though it will take a few weeks.

Will, I should receive and send your copy next week. Number 3 hardcover! Number 1 is on its way to JTEX now and Number 2 will be on the way to Marty soon!

Cheers Zig, hope you are well buddy. Cheers Upton, hope those ducks come winging in soon!

David
