A while back there was some discussion about an aftermarket detachable scope ring for the M77. I couldn't find it again in a seach. Does anyone know who makes such an item, and where they can be purchased?

Secondly, are they more accurate after removing and reattaching the scope than simply using the stock rings as detachables? I did that in 2006 when buffalo and elephant hunting and removed the scope several times going between days looking for elephant as opposed to buffalo. The scope would re-zero close, but not spot on. I'd have to reshoot it each time.

I have used the Warne Quick Detatch Rings on my Ruger .458 Lott.

Link to Cabela's

I had a problem w/them, the "tabs" failed causing the scope to shift slightly. I suspect this was a result of shooting hot loads and/or from a supported gun rest. They have proven reliable when shooting regular loads from the shoulder, just remove the scope and check after shooting.

Scope was a Leupold 1.5-5x20.

Bill, Thanks. I thought I was considerably more versed in Cabela's inventory than that. Those were the ones I was thinking about. I'll likely order them today.

They are for a .458 Lott. That gun really pounds the hardware. I've learned one simply cannot shoot it off a supported rest. I just cowboy up and sight it in by shooting it off the shoulder.

Are you still using the rings with the tabs broken, or did get a new set?

This was in 04, and I emailed Warne and he called me, and said he had not had another report of this occurring, and sent out a replacement. They have been fine, again, shooting off the shoulder. I think you'll be happy with them. I have the "medium".

I have the Warne QD's on a few of my 77's and have not had any problems with them returning to zero after removing & reattaching. I also have one 77 (a 7x57) that I'm using the Ruger rings with and am interested to see how they return to zero after removal.

Were you using a low powered scope?

I have warne QD rings on my 416 Rem, my 416 Rigby, and my 404 Jeffrey; have been shooting them off a rest, including the caldwell lead sled, for years, no problems.
ive used light leupold scopes for all (2X or 1.5 X 5x variX 111 for years, no problems. the only problem Ive ever had was with a Nightforce 5.5X22 on a 30-378, which broke Leupold permanent rings
I think the weight of the scope is very important in determining how well the rings hold up; with a light scope, no problems, even with my hot loaded 505. (I dont shoot that off a rest, for obvious reasons!)

I had a 1-5X20 vxIII leupold scope on it. I prefer it with open sights, but I'd like to be able to put the scope on it if necessary.

Make sure you get the right set of rings. Cabelas only sells one style of ring...don't remember which rifle they are for but rings for a bolt rifle are different than for a single shot.

We're going to be "gifted" with a health care plan we are forced to purchase and fined if we don't, Which purportedly covers at least ten million more people, without adding a single new doctor, but provides for 16,000 new IRS agents, written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that didn't read it but exempted themselves from it, and signed by a President, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, for which we'll be taxed for four years before any benefits take effect, by a government which has already bankrupted Social Security and Medicare, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's broke!!!!!
