I agree about other people's mounts, but the rhino is nice and I don't see myself hunting one anytime soon!

There ius a lot of value in them for museums. They are priced way below market value in that arena. The Black Rhino alone probably is worth upwards of $75K.

Walhalla is for Vikings not Califirnians
And the old Pharoes would get their head crushed by Thor if they showed themself in Walhalla.

Cheers,

I heard on the tv the other day that outside of the very rare animals like polar bear and tiger, most mounts can be had quite cheaply, especially since by the time they are sold many of them are rather old/tatty.
I wouldn't buy someone else's trophies if they were for $20.
I wonder where 1000s of trophies belonging to dead people end up every year, a sad thought to think of your trophies in a dump or an old pub, all dusty and cracking....

About 12 years ago I bought 4 ivory tusks (two 40 lbs, two 65 lbs), a black rhino mount and some spears for $12K from a fellow who was ill and needed money. He bagged the trophies in Kenya in 1952. Thought I'd turn a quick and easy profit. After shopping it around for about 2 years, I was glad to get rid of it all for a little more than I paid.

If you guys get in a situation where you need to move trophies, the route to follow is museums--but you don't sell them for cash. You donate them and get a tax credit, a huge one. The "return" then comes in your taxes. It must all be done properly, and usually it is advisable to use one of the companies that specialize in this process.

There are two legitemate reasons to buy trohpies of other people. #1 is for profit, to sell to resturantes, or donate to museums, for the tax break! #2 for a collection of animals which are extinct, or near extinction. As long as they are labeled as to who took them, where they were taken, and when. A collection that included mounts of things like the black rhino, tigers, both Bengal and snow. Clouded, and snow leopard, a full body mount of a Quagga. Some of these old mounts are around, that were mounted when they were still legal to hunt, and shouldn't be wasted in the garbage dump, just because the hunter is no longer alive.

This is no different from collecting old rifles, or pistols that you have no intention of shooting, but enjoy haveing a piece of the "GONE FOREVER" past, wondering where they have been, and what they have done, as long as they are presented as such!
