T.CarrSounds Like a Nice Guy
Ladies and Gentlemen,
As we will be hunting with a PH, Kevin du Boil, for the first time. I sent him an email introducing myself and setting out my general priorities for the upcoming safari.
Here is his response:
Hi Terry & Carol
Thank you so much for your e-mail.
I'm so sorry about the delay but I don't have my own e-mail.
Anyway as you know I'm Kevin du Boil and I 'm 45 years old. I am married to Anne Marie and we have a beautiful 4 year old son named Kieran. We are all hunters and I have been a professional hunter since 1989. Anne Marie has hunted all her life and Kieran is following in his mother and father's footsteps. His hunting stories I will tell you about while we sit around the camp fire in the evening.
I'm really looking forward to meeting and hunting with you folks and if there is anything you need or want to know before we get together please do not hesitate to contact me. I will go out of my way to make sure that your safari is an enjoyable and successful one.
I do not profess to be a cowboy or Seageant Major type of person, I'm just a normal guy who loves his job and the environment I walk in. I have lived on a farm all my life and I have a lot of respect for the bush.
I'm so pleased to hear that Carol will be joining us on the safari, I couldn't imagine someone sitting in camp or on the vehicle and missing out on the excitement of the safari. The hunting area is not too rugged and walking is relatively easy going.
Terry, you wanted to know if there was any thing you could bring from the USA. Well sir, would you mind bringing me a good quality head lamp - the one you strap to your head and 2 good quality rechargable flash lights (Maglites). We don't get them here in Zimbabwe. If you have space 1 or 2 rolls of that fantastic DUCKTAPE. If you can do that Terry, I will be very greatful, thank you.
I am leaving on the 31st for 2 hunts and will see you at the airstrip in Dande, can't wait. Have a safe trip. Thanking you again.
Best regards
Kevin The flashlights and headlamp are on order and will be heading to town this weekend to finish up shopping for the safari and will pick up the duct tape.
Regards,
Terry

Bill CYou just like him cause he gave you the opportunity to do more shopping

Seriously, sounds like a good guy...articulate, professional, real - and ideally suited for a husband/wife safari. You guys are going to have a great trip!
The guy specifically asked for DUCKTAPE and you buy duct tape! That´s pretty dumb. I think you can get ducktape at any chinese food store, it´s probably used in the making of Peking duck which is a staple food in rural Zim.

Don't forget the headlamp. I prefer the regular incandescent variety as opposed to the diode. They have one (Red strap)) at WallyMart that takes 4 AA's. It has a focusing lever. Works pretty well. Take lots of AA's batteries.
Maybe Kevin doesn't want to get chewed again!

AnotherAZWriterWhat??
No Surefire??
I sure wouldn't book with this guy...
Nice to see another guy not fall for the Surefire hype. I prefer a mountaineering headlamp any day to any flashlight.

Widowmaker416My PH in Zim uses those "rechargeable" mag lites. Let me tell you, those things are nice! No batteries to fuss with or hope you have good spares, he keeps it plugged in in his Landcruiser. Always a bright beam! I'm getting a couple for my vehicles.
Terry,
Sounds like you and Carol are going to have a great time!! The PH seems genuine! Have a great trip!!!!!

Balla BallaWell life in Zimbabwe under MR. MUGABE must be a lot easier than in the days when I lived there under dear MR. Smith.
I remember when your SOB Western Governments slapped UN sanctions on our poor white honkey government way back, we would have asked U to bring out a light bulb or a safety pin or even a razor blade to shave with in those DARK DAYS...

At leaSt now, it is only the luxury items REQUIRED !!!
Seriously now, he sounds like a damn decent Zimbabwean PH that guy ...
All the best to him and his family as life is not that easy in Zim's today either is it
Pter
Terry,
Sounds like a man I would be honored to hunt with.

There are those that do, those that dream, and those that only read about it and then post their "expertise" on AR!
Sounds like it is going to be a grand time with a very nice fellow.

butchlocFYI - there is duct tape and there is ducttape. Go to an air conditioning shop and ask for nassau 357 tape. It's only available to pro's and is by far the best stuff out there
