Heavy. Two years ago the rifle and the ammo case were out of the baggage wight because my travel agency did a real good job and declared them sportive equipments. This help, even if I did a lot of work with the scale (it was my first time there) to stay in the 20Kg. But if you don't, or cannot, manage the baggage shipping like my t.a. did, the risk is to pay to the overweight or to have a reduced weight availability for all th other things to bring with you. Two years ago I used a Negrini case, I take away the foam rubber that was very thick and I used a bag with neoprene padding that gave to me more room to put inside the knifes and a lot of many other things. The scopes and bino were in my hand luggage. I avoided Gatwick and Heathrow, and choosed Frankfurt to embarck on Namibian Airlines. I think that this year I will choose another solution. I'll buy a shhet of 1 cm of neoprene that I'll glue to the case, I'll put my rifle in a not padded bag, and this will give to me more roomr than 2 years ago. It will be light, very light. bye Stefano Waidmannsheil

I took a two gun Pelican case to RSA in 2004. I had two scoped rifles in it with all the foam that comes with it. The total weight was 47 lbs. (the two rifles were fairly light weight) and I had no problem taking it as my second bag. "I ask, sir, what is the Militia? It is the whole people. You're talking carry on, correct? If so I have to agree with Geronimo and also ask 'Why?' We have a small pelican for the camera. Use it when rafting, etc... Other than that I just take a day pack as carry on for hunting. Far more versatile. I do like my pelicans for my rifles and shotguns, though. -Steve -------- www.zonedar.com If you can't be a good example, be a horrible warning DRSS C&H 475 NE --------

We have fewer issues regarding baggage and baggage weight than our international brothers. But that is changing. I have used several configurations of the Pelican Case for international travel and I've been very happy with them. No rifle damage and no case damage. Before switching to Pelican cases I totaled three or four other cases. For the best protection, cut the middle layer of foam in the Pelican case to fit your rifles. They will not move at all then. Fit doesn't need to be too precise. Better to cut too little than too much. You can get replacement foam from Pelican if you need to but I'f found that snug cuts will accomodate rifles with scopes or without, shotguns etc interchangeably without issue.
