With only 6 weeks until visiting Russ in Matetsi I thought a few good buff pics would hype the mood a bit! Not that I need to get much more excited.

First bull is the class of the field. He's a shooter on the first minute of the first hunting day.

Ryan, welcome to AR. Have a great safari, and make sure to post a report on your return. I will be there about the same time with 3 other guys...can't wait.

Wish you a great safari.

I love all of them but particularly the last one.

Will,

I agree. #1 is ... #1! All great pictures as well from a photography standpoint.

Question, is #3 a bit soft bossed? I can't tell but it appears the boss isn't completely hard in the bottom front.

Great pictures. If Robert Ruark were putting some captions on them, they might go something like this
1. I've heard that excuse before, pay up!
2. Now, about that money you owe me!
3. I know where you live!
4. What part of pay up don't you understand!

Those photos are so good, you can almost smell the sour cow breath and hear the flies buzzing. Have a good time. Please post a report when you get back.

My favorite buffalo picture is a freeze-frame of the 2010 Saeed Safari of Mbogo an instant after impact of the 500 Mbogo Accuracy Load:
.510/450gr GSC HV at 2654 fps, with 105 grains of Hodgdon Benchmark Extreme.
(115 grains of Benchmark makes the same bullet go 2830 fps with no problemo except groups are twice as big.)

Shot once through the humerus and heart, Mbogo bucked once like a rodeo bull, ran 50 yards and fell down.
He did not move again until the lullabye shot rocked him to Requiescat In Pacem.

Ron Shooting A Buffalo

I shot from about 80 yards.
Was I sniping? Wink
That's him in my avatar.

Number 1, number 4, number 2 and number 3 in that order for me please!

Here is some eye candy for you. I snapped this photo in a park of course. Any guess on the width of this bull? I thought maybe a bit better than 50" ??

Yes, a group of us are hunting with Russ Broom. Should be a typical big bag adventure. I have had the privilege of being on the ground in Africa for around 45 weeks or so. Most of it as the videographer, although I don't miss an opportunity to grab the rifle when the opportunity arises!! After filming dozens of big bulls being taken its finally my turn!! Excitement levels are at all time high as its starting to become reality, I may finally get to look down the barrel toward my own nyati! Besides my buf, I will be filming Lion, croc, hippo, leopard, sable.... I hear the drums already!

The "big nasties"! And quite big at that. I can say I honestly never tire of hunting buffalo.

Best of luck on your safari to Matetsi!

Is it safe to safe to say that Cape Buffalo actually have personalities as opposed to other DG? These pictures show "personality" to me...I sure would like one of these boys! My next post is #400!!
