Danny, I have tried both and I think the 9.3mm does kick a bit less, but there's not a whole lot in it. I suspect rifle weight, stock design and the type of recoil pad used are bigger factors in "percieved recoil".. Regards, Pete

I love both and I owned both - and got rid of them a while ago... It has nothing to do with the calibres of course, but I can't stand magazine rifles! Now I have a Krieghoff Classic Big Five in 9,3 X 74R And a .30-06 in a Sauer Drilling (perfect for hunting bushpig). www.kapstadt.de/lemberg Hunting one hour from Cape Town

Hi, I have a dilemma: Last summer I bought a Husqvarna 98 in 9.3x62, mostly bought it for the action. Now I was thinking about converting it to a custom 30-06 but then Ive heard these great things about the cal and Im hesitating. The hesitation is because my favorite rifle is a Mannlicher Mod 72 in .375 H&H and she doesnt need a rival! Seriously I just dont want two rifles that are more or less alike. But how close are these calibers in reality? To convert or not to convert -that is the question.

By all accounts the 9.3 x 62 is the ballistic equivalent to the .375. I doubt anyone can tell the difference in the field and if so it will be so minuscle that it is hardly worth mentioning it. Why not keep both and buy a 30-06 It can't cost much more than doing a conversion on the 9.3 x 62.

.375 for general use and put a good 'scope on the 9,3 for lion or leopard

Since I have a 6.5x55 I might not need the 30-06...its just that the 30-06 was my first big game caliber and maybe Im being nostalgic. Was thinking that moderate loads and a 250g bullet would make the 9.3 good for dearhunting -any thoughts?

Gentlemen what is happening here at AR??? The other day, 7x57 Mauser was called a "big game cartridge" in another thread and now you say the same about 30-06! As to your question, surely a custom gun ought to be in something more fun than a 30-06? What about some nice old british calibre? You have your two working horses and an excellent combination they sound, now you need a toy! Regards, Martin

cewe, I totally agree with Marterius. What is called for now is a touch of whimsy. The .375 H&H, 9.3x62 and 6,5x55 are all simply perfect calibers - classy, effective, efficient, practical and steeped in a century of history. You can easily hunt the entire world in tremendous style with your present battery. Don't dare get rid of any of them. You need something either huge and brutish or tiny and dainty, preferably one of both. There are three rationals for a 30-06. Nostalgia, as you have mentioned, to keep as a loaner gun and/or to get a total beater or synthetic/stainless abomination to use as a boat/truck/knock around rifle. JCN

Use your 9,3 on deer just like it is. The beauty of the 9,3 is that its hard bullets expand on big animals like expected and, while expanding less on smaller species, the large caliber bullet kills them efficiently with very little venison damage. In my country, the 9,3x62 (bolt) and 9,3x74R (double) are very popular for mixed drive hunting (Roedeer, Wild Boar & Red deer). These critters vary in weight from 25 to 200 kg and the running shots won't allow surgical bullet placement, so that big bullet compensates very well indeed. My std. "battue" rifle is a o/u in 9,3x74R.

Fellows it is decided: It stays in 9.3 I do have my .416 Rigby which I adore and anything smaller tham 6.5 is less than a toy (except the 22 LR!) it just doesnt fit into my hunting picture Was thinking about a .458 Lott or a .505 Gibbs but I cant convince myself that I want one. Talk about problems in life...

I do feel the 9.3 and .375 H&H are different enough to warrent both....could it be stated that the .375 H&H is a little more specialized ?? or is this my Justification for needing both
