Following the queries here about the Ultimate Lodge in Vic Falls, I have been in touch with the new owners as it has been sold. It will re-open in April this year as Bayete Guest Lodge under the ownership/management of Mike and Alex Johnson.

In Mike’s email to me, he said “We are closed until April, whilst we are renovating and refurbing the entire lodge. We hope to take the bedrooms up from the present 14 rooms to 25 rooms. All rooms will be air conditioned and have a bathroom-ensuite. We will build a new bar which will be the 'heartbea't of the lodge, and will be situated in the current boma, Our rates will be around the $120 a single room or $180 per double room.

Our land line is (+263-13) 2275 and the web site which is still being designed and is waiting the new pictures as soon as the team finishes each part of the lodge can be seen at http://www.bayeteguestlodge.com/.”

Best of luck to the new owners. However, for those of us that have stayed at the Ultimate over the years and had became close friends of Russell's it will always be the Ultimate and Russell in our hearts. RIP

Loved my stay at that place and the evening at the Boma.
