phill pittmanScruffy makes "The Big Show"
Another one of our "Infamous" members made the big show in African Sporting Gazette. Actually its a late notification as he had two succeeding stories in the Summer and Fall issues{Vols.17&18} on our self- guided Cameroon hunt. When the topic of D. Nelsons story came up I thought I would also like to bring recognition to Scruffy's literary creation. He of course spends an inordinate amount of written space alluding to my general incompetence, physical inadequacies and mental deficiencies. I however have take the moral high ground and let such undeserved vitriol reflect on dubious integrity of the source from which it came. All joking aside, I feel my scribbling friend penned something a little off the literary beaten path. As this was not your normal , meet the P.H. at the airport and be "looked after" until the flight home.No sundowners here, just boiled water and sleeping on the ground. But it was a great hunt and Scruffy got a well deserved savanna buffalo.
Strange thing is, he was never given or offered any monetary compensation for his two articles which, I for one consider to be if not outstanding, at least better than the average hunting yarn they regularly produce. I would have thought they would have at least given him a free year's subscription.I know they make most of their bucks on ADs but people buy the Magazine to read the articles primarily.

See if he asked for a free year. I thought it was standard for a published article. I had two published and was given two years free.
I believe the old rogue is also having some of his work included in a "best of" African Sporting Gazette book as well. I know he writes because he likes it, but he does it well (I'm awaiting the arrival of his latest book to complete my Scruffy collection) and I hope he gets some reward if only because of the kick he'd get out of it.
