Looking at booking a trip with Muchinga - John Du Plooy
Mark Young has lined up a really interesting trip - would be go going to the Chifunda area.

Have heard a lot of great things about Zambia and Muchinga, anything I should be aware of when looking at doing a trip like this?

Thanks

The duPlooy's are, in my opinion, one of the finest and well run Safari companies in all of Africa.

I hunted 6 years in a row with them. At the time they were hunting Nyaminga and Chanjuzi, which are right next door. Nyaminga shares a border with Chifunda.

Back then, PJ Fouche was the PH hunting Chifunda. Had lunch and dinner with him several times. He had a very strict philosophy of how, where and even which animals could be hunted.

I believe the number one SCI buffalo came from there at one point. Could be wrong but thats what I remember.

You cannot go wrong on this Safari, from beginning to end, everything will be handled and handled well.

I'll be hunting with John Du Plooy/Muchinga in Chanjuzi in August...can't give you the specific info you're looking for but after my own research Muchinga was a good fit for me. Zambia has a lot going for it these days as Tanzania has priced itself out of my league.

The DuPlooys have things dialed in really well. I have been with Muchinga twice, most recently in '15.

Depending on your finances and time, a side trip to Bangwelu or the Kafue Flats for Lechwe might not be a bad idea.

Laura will give the pros and cons of charter flights to the concessions. In essence, it's time vs. money. If you have more time, the drive is cheaper.

If there is some one animal other than the main quarry that you "must" have, make sure they know as quotas can be limited.

Malaria meds are a must...

Have fun!

While I agree that Zambia has great offerings. Tanzania has some deals. You need to just look hard and trust your agent, like I do.

I'm in Tanzania this September, full 21 day license, 16 hunting days. 27K all in less TF's. Not some scrub ass outfit either.

lol...I'll take two please. I don't want to question your pricing...but I'm not even sure how that's possible. Deal of the century, with all the fees for a 21 day license your daily rate is extremely low.

I have seen deals like that in TZ also...

It's just what Fairgame was talking about in a different thread.

The TF for lion is way up there and they usually add a success fee on it. As is on leopard and elephant.... good luck on this one, Steve. Sounds like you had a few stinkers lately, so you're due a good one!

I actually have only had the one bad Safari. It was on my last Safari to Tanzania. Out of all my hunting AND fishing, I can only count three in total that I would not do over.

And you're correct about the TF's being high on Lion and Elephant. Even if the USFWS changes the rules, I would likely not shoot an Elephant. The Lion would need to be a real cracker for me to shoot.

Believe it or not, the focus on this Safari is; Topi, East African Sitatunga and East African Eland (Pattersons). I will then have both Sitatunga and all 4 Elands.

I obviously will shoot the 3 Buffalo and a Leopard plus some others.

10generation, what are you hunting? I hunted Chifunda in 15 and can tell you that the DuPlooys do indeed run an excellent outfit.

Plenty of buff there! Take your time and you can root up big one. There was a hunter in camp when I arrived there in 2015 who had killed one approaching 50 inches. There is an advertisement picture in Safari Magazine of Johnny holding the horns.

Good choice and Chifunda is one of Africa's prime hunting blocks.

DuPlooyes are the best in Zam, hunted with Johnny in 2013 and 2015, very serious outfitting and well organized by Laura on ground arrangements, you are in safe/professional hand.

Wish you all the best for upcoming Buffalo hunt.

Another tu2

Hunted with Muchinga way back in 2006 so the areas may have changed but I had and excellent hunt for buff, hippo and croc in Nyaminga.

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.
