Ganyana

I contacted Tim regarding your comment made here, I really think that you need to get your facts right. He did not under any circumstance hunt under Wayne Jardine and the only reason he worked for Rebecca Steyn for so long after Sean's death was out of loyalty to Sean. He had a restricted licence which was lifted in 2005 and Andy Hunter was his examiner. A restriction does not mean you cannot conduct hunts as I am sure you are aware. Since Tim has been operating on his own he has been fully licensed. So 2 years is incorrect and so is your statement about Jardine, I hunted with Rebecca Steyn when Wayne got involved there and I personally am aware of the fact that Tim did not hunt under him. Once again false.

Alan,
So you are saying Tim has done 53 hunts per year for the last 3 years? Average hunt 10 days, so he hunts 533 days per year. Wow, you are definitely booking hunts for the right guy.
Especially, since he only got his PH license 2 years ago.

MotorCity

You are leading on from false information as Tim has had a full licence since before operating on his own. I have hunted with Tim basically every year for the last 6 years, from when he hunted for Sean to this year. I have not once had one bad word to say about him or his operation (since going on his own) and I have spoken to several other satisfied hunters and not one of them went through the agent you did, sound coincidental????? I know the agent you went through and would not book through him, too many contradictions and untruths.

Matswani,
Did you attend Tim's wedding in ZIM. If you did, I contacted you as a reference. Do you hunt with TIM or the other PH's that work for Tim? From what I understand, the people who hunt with Tim have had much better hunts. It seems like he pays attention to detail on his personal hunts. Maybe this is coincidental????
My booking agent was not the problem. What he told me all came true. I have talked to hunters who booked 2 different booking agents.
I can only go by my experiences.

I was not able to attend Tim's wedding but was actually invited. Just a quick question? Is Tim to be held accountable for another Ph's actions? He cannot control how another professional hunter works and cannot hunt with every client that goes through his company. On one occassion I did hunt with another one of Tim's ph's who I found to be very professional but on a completely different level from Tim, do I blame Tim for this? Understandably Tim's company is relatively new and is bound to have teething problems but I know that he is always trying to improve on service. Anyone who has been in business for themselves does not always start out on the right footing but can only improve and learn from errors, don't you think? I am sure that if you were to contact Tim directly that he would make things right or at least give it a good try. Regardless of your past hunt experience, Tim is a really good man and will always go the extra mile. (My opinion!)

Matswani,
I see that you have had good luck with Schultz. I'm glad for you, and wouldn't wish my bad experience with him on anyone. Just as I can accept that not all his hunts can be bad, you may have to accept that Tim is quite capable of screwing over other clients while pretending nothing is wrong, cracking jokes and being rather personable. How would you feel if you spent 9 days out of 10 day hunt without the elephant permit you booked for? That's just for starters, the rest is in my hunt report.

This is true. He is as responsible for his employees' actions on the job as he is for his own.

I've heard several horror stories featuring Tim Schultz from hunters who hunted in different areas and different years and for different game. The common denominator was Tim Schultz.

Well, Tim has been expelled from the Zimbabwe Association of Professional Hunters & Guides for conduct unbecoming of a PH. The SOAZ question is still awaiting the answer to the awkward question as to where tim got the lion for the hunt that he donated at SCi this year, since he had none on quota and was hunting in an area with none on quota...

Dogleg...please email copies of all interesting pictures to the association (soaz@mweb.co.zw) and perhaps ZPHGA as well- fishunt@zol.co.zw

Motorcity,
It would be interesting to see if Alan Kelly continues to defend Schultz in light of him being expelled from ZPHGA, or if he will choose to distance himself? It is a little hard to deny that there are problems with his boy, when ZPHGA has confirmed that there is by giving him the boot. If you are still in contact with Kelly it might be fun to point this out, just to see which way he squirms.

I don't think Alan Kelly has the guts to come on here and defend Tim. I feel sorry for all of the people involved with Tim and African Nightmare Safaris. He has some great PH's and people who work for him. By Tim acting this way and treating his clients like s**t he gives all PH's a bad name. Hopefully, all of the customers who hunted with him and had horrible experiences, can go back and enjoy the African Dream. I know, when the economy does turn, I will be back.
Happy Hunting!

First off, I have been out of country. Assumption is not the way to deal with things. I was also waiting on a bit of evidence to prove that what you are all accusing Tim of is not true, the lions that were shown in the pictures belong to a private individual and are not for any sport hunting as you once again all assume.

The information I have now posted is the proof that Tim bought 1 elephant, 10 buffalo and 1 lion hunt from Martin Pieters at the Omay for 2008 (the donated lion in question). It was decided later on in the year between Tim and Martin not to take this lion due to population concerns from Martin. I am now also awaiting the proof of deposit of $50 000 to secure these animals, paid by Tim. Once I have it I will be posting it for you to see.

The matter of the association suspending/banning Tim is now being taken legal by Tim due to an unjust decision. I hope that the comments that are being made will now be carefully considered now that the unethical lion hunting has been proven to be legal. Please find out facts before making allegations that are not true.

Has no one ever heard of defamation of character suits?

Apart from the fact that Martin Peters nearly choked on his mineral water when Wayne stated at the AGM that Tim had bought the lion from him...News to Martin!

The matter of Tim's membership was pushed to a vote at the AGM - and the members voted not to renew his membership, irrespective of the suspention decision by the previous committee.

And No- there were others at the AGM who have commited at least as bad a "sins" as Tim. There are a good few non members who have done a lot worse...Tim got caught short by trying to pass the blame onto the PH's instead of keeping it in the company.

Perhaps Tim can now come on the forum and describe all the failings of his detractors, and denounce them as whiners and fags?

What next, no Easter Bunny?

It is sad to see that there are no longer honest business men who are willing to tell the truth. I know for a fact that Tim conducted a large number of hunts in the Omay through Martin Pieters and did in fact pay for the lion in question. The truth will be known!!!! It seems that Tim's money is good enough when it comes to hunting but he is not good enough for people to stand up and say they sold animals to especially when there is proof. Very disgusting!!! A sad state of affairs with what is happening in Zimbabwe, there are good people who do not deserve the backstabbing politics involved there.

Matswani- then it is a great pitty that Tim did not attend the AGM and present the facts or confront his Accusers. A couple of the PH’s who had hunted for him in the Omay did their level best to defend him, but without hard facts, let alone proof, and several “ex” staff present, it ended up as two against the rest.

As has been so common over the last nine years for many PH’s and small operators, it was murky dealings in the Gwaai that came back to bite.

We can do nothing now, but we can remember all those who have danced with the
devil and bring them to justice when the time is right. I have a list, as I'm sure many others do. The wheel is turning..... Ever so slowly, but it is turning. One day it will achieve a full revolution, and then we'll stop this insane dance for good.

David and all other good Zimbabwe PH's and Outfitters and Hunting Industry guys,

David it is good that you keep a list. I urge all others to also keep a list of all the wrongdoings and wrongdoers that you know for a fact of. As David says, the wheel is turning and justice should be meted out to those who dance with the Devil.

I live in a community where some families are still branded as "Joiners", meaning those who betrayed their countrymen and joined the English fighting forces in the "Engelse Oorlog" [or better known as the Anglo-Boer war] The accusation that "Your grandfather or great grandfather helped the English to kill about 20% of all the woman and children in the Free State and the then Transvaal. Yes, that's about right: 25% of the whole population was wiped out! And those who were responsible are still remembered, but not fondly!

In a similar manner those who do wrong now should be remembered and their wrong-doings listed to have a record for when the day of reckoning comes. And that day will come! Soon I hope for the sake of the many good Zimbabweans that I know, and those that I don’t' know.

In good hunting.

I don't know who did what here. However, I was one of the last to do one of these cull hunts if not the last one. I hunted with Ray Makwehe, the gentleman Ganyana referred to earlier.

Ray had an assistant whose name I don't recall. Both were hell on wheels. They knew what they were doing. I would go with them again in a heart beat.

As someone said, it is dangerous and dirty work. Definitely not a trophy hunt. Shooting a bunch of cows and juveniles up close and personal is about as dangerous as it gets.

I personally witnessed the aftermath of some of these problem hunts. I saw carcasses next to major roads and waterholes. This caused problems. Surely tourists didn't react well to that.

I have a friend that was guided by Ray that shot a bull that was 59.2 pounds. It was a mistake in judgement of the size. Personally, I believe this was caused by the physical size of the bull. I can understand how that could happen. My friend felt bad about this as did Ray.

I don't know for a fact where the money goes. However, I was verbally told it went to National Parks. NP obviously has a budget issue. They don't have enough fuel and I did not see a single bore hole that was operational. The meat was given to hungry villagers.

After being there for a few days, I can say without a doubt that they need to cull a hell of a lot of elephants or they are going to have a major problem on their hands.

Damn, Steve! What do you have against those poor leopards??? A morsel so putrid is bound to give even a leopard a case of "Mugabe's Revenge".

Just an observation regarding the defenders of African Dreams - loyalty is something I do admire, but there comes a point where you need to separate the wheat from the chaff. If you have hunted with this individual in the past, it sounds like it may be time to invoke your right to remain silent, and explore the risks associated with potential issues under US law, like the Lacey Act.
