Interesting shot placement. Smiler Likely the best choice under the circumstances though...hopefully for Tarzan the picture shows it before the arrow has finished pentrating! Eeker

LMAO. An ape will die on every page! Classic. And here I thought the "whack 'em & stack 'em" theme in modern hunting shows was a recent phenomenon!

Two things I noticed about those covers:

1. Tarzan is looking far to the right of those buffalo. Could he be showing off for Jane?

2. Saxton Hale lost his shirt and most of his trousers, but he managed to keep his hat while faultlessly executing the dreaded and deadly shoulder blade stab.

tu2 Dang, you got me.

Well, I also noticed Tarzan seems to be out of arrows and those buffalo look a little peeved. And those big leaves don't look like much protection.

LOL You are obviously not a connoisseure of the finer arts of gorilla stabbing. Smiler That is ovbviously the "Over-the-shoulder reverse clavicle stab", probably with a half-twist, which was a favorite style of the time.

That half-twist is what made it such an art form. It's a shame, but contemporary gorilla stabbers now prefer the double axle even though it has much less class. :P

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

I seem to remember that Ruger use to advertise their .44 magnum rifle as a perfect fit for hunting gorillas...complete with graphics of a hunter bagging a silverback. Times, they are a changing.

A gem from Saxton Hale:

Mr. Bidwell: There's a group of hippies in the parking lot again...

Saxton Hale: The scoundrels! What have they got their smelly ponytails in a twist about this time?

Mr Bidwell: Guns, sir. They're against them.

Saxton Hale: Fine. I'll beat them to death with my bare hands!
